An awesome place to visit, and very popular with good reason. When we arrived before the gates opened, there were already cars lined up waiting to get in. The restaurant and the area around it are very busy on weekends. Hikers and birders will enjoy the distant areas of the garden, too. One significant detraction is a large glass room in the middle of the garden housing cactuses which I understand is a death trap for birds who do not see the glass and fly into it and break their necks. It's hard to understand why a place which does so much to attract and support the native flora and fauna would build something like this.

For 5 reais you can enjoy the tranquil gardens and scenery of this beautiful place. Plenty to see and do .my only grumble was as a English speaking person there was not enough information in English that i could read about the artifacts as it was mainly in Portuguese
