Don't miss the chance to visit this chocolate factory. The price is extremely low (something like $6.50), and you can see the chocolate making process in detail. You are often within a foot of the machines that assemble the chocolates (i.e. cut the fillings, add wafer to the outside, drip chocolate over the fillings, etc.). They tell you all about the fabrication process and you can see the extremely fast chocolate wrapping machines and boxing machines. The tubes carrying solid and liquid ingredients are also pointed out and explained. Heating and cooling processes are related, etc.! It's all very interesting...and to some perhaps the most fun part is you can eat as much chocolate as you can hold while in the factory! :D There are about 3 stops for chocolate eating and you can taste the chocolates you've seen made. The record for most chocolates eaten on the tour is something like 73...held by an American gentleman...Kids, don't try this at home! :o
After the tour don't forget to go across the street and see the free museum. As well as being interesting, they will probably give you a small bag of chocolates and mints to take home.
Oh, if you need an English guide you should call and say so in advance. Actually, you have to call in advance to reserve a spot, sometimes they are booked full weeks in advance. The telephone number is on the Garoto website.

We wanted to visit the factory, but we did not realize you need a reservation. They were booked for the week! We asked to be put on a waiting list and that is when we met Drieli, a young woman who spoke terrific English. I have the feeling she pulled some strings for us and got us on a tour and it was worth the time. You stand right next to the machines, can talk with workers, and you get free chocolate at the end! But I have to say the Drieli was the highlight of our visit. She worked hard to make sure we understood everything, learned some new words from us, told us jokes, and just had a really good time. I understand there are several other English speaking guides, but she was great.

Sempre quis conhecer a fábrica!

What an amaaaaaazing tour! It was in my childhood fantasies to visit our little version of Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory, but just after growing up I got to go there. I had so much fun with my family! Yes! All adults! We laughed the whole time, had lots of fun, almost died over the delicious smell everywhere and ate bombons like crazy people in the end! Fantastic! Can’t wait to go there again!

The staff was really friendly and it's a cool place to check out as they also let you try some of the chocolate at the end. Unfortunately they ended our tour after we had just seen 1/3 of it. After asking for the specific reasons it turned out that they were cleaning the machines of the other parts of the factory that we were supposed to visit. Sidenote: you have to book the tour in advanced so they knew we were coming on that day. Who offers tours during times they are doing maitenance?
They were willing to give us some money back though because we just saw 1/3 of the whole tour but paid the whole tour at the beginning.

Went there with City run tour bus "Discover Vila Velha" that included a stop at the Garoto Choclate Factory. At factory ticket counter all rules were in Portuguese only, however I manage to make out the clothing requirements: no shorts, ripped jeans, sandals for hygienic reasons I thought. But some ladies in shorts and flip flops seem to be exempt since they had the tour cards hanging from their neck From other posters all visitors were marshalled into an orientation room given safety instructions and fitted with overalls. No employee was able to explain the rationale of the dress code, guess Garoto needs to be more proactive to market their tour portion of their operation.

I'm Brazilian and I did the visit with my American boyfriend. When I did the reservation I tried to reserve a tour in English (I heard they had it) but I couldn't. I sent an email and called to ask about it, but I wasn't successful. On the day of the visit, I was informed that they only have tours in English for groups and that I have to schedule it one on the phone. I had to translate everything for my boyfriend during the tour, which was complicated because we were visiting a factory and it can be very loud inside. This is a very simple problem that can be solved with an audiotour in English (and other languages), but they don't have it.

We love it, it’s a place to make a visit with the family. They will explain how works the factory and the prosses to make the chocolates. After it we will visited the museun, where we can know about the history about the brand and products. Do it, they will not can losse this attraction.

It was a very good trip we liked seeing all the chocolates being made and everything was very organized. the thing that upset us so much was that when we went to visit the sonho de valsa machine they were cleaning it, so we didnt get to see anything. It was so upsetting, it was the thing that we looked forward to most. They should've changed our time or just told us ahead of time and we would've rescheduled. It was ridiculous but the tour guides were good and their safety precautions were reasonable.
