I think most of the reviews are correct referring to Prea as a quite murky, windy beach designed for kite surfers. There are a couple of bars and street vendors selling souvenirs near the parking lot and not much than that. I think the most entertaining part was watching the kite surfers and the colorful sky with all the different kite coloring, patterns and shapes.

Having said that, coming with locals a day after for a drink at the sunset, I was pleasantly surprised with a delightful sunset, where the golden shades of sun mix with the shades of people and kites, creating a very unique composition, candy for the eyes. It's a different mood than Jeri for sure, but if you are planning to be a regular,

The best place to kite surf around Jeri
Constant wind, nice schools (Kite Nomad, Rancho do Kite), beautiful restaurants on the beach

this is the perfect spot for kite surfers. There's the mosquito place, next to Rancho do Peixe that provides great reliable kite gear.

Jericoacoara is the best place to stay, and some places as west (Tatajuba) are just fine. But the "touristic" places to east are just terrible. Really, terrible. Don't waste Jericoacoara time going to Prea Beach, Lagoa Azul or Árvore da Preguiça. Despite dozens of people trying to sell you these trips, they are just not worthy, not even for free.
(the only exception: Lagoa do Paraíso, which is very beautiful!)

The beach itself sucks. The daily afternoon on-shore gusts make it impossible to sit and enjoy the beach as you're getting painfully sand-blasted for hours on end. The negligible options in Prea make this a one stop shop for wind sports and nothing else. The only time you can really enjoy the beach is first thing, early in the morning before the afternoon winds, or later in the evening for sunset if the wind dies down.

For kiters, this is heaven. The water is shallow, sandy bottom, smooth and relatively clean, but you better watch out for the dangerous discarded fishing gear that the locals leave laying around because they don't give one @#$% about anyone's safety.

It's too bad though that so few care about the plastic pollution on the beach. Even the pousadas there contribute to the garbage, leaving their plastic garbage bags on the beach outside their properties waiting for pickup, to be torn apart by the local dogs and birds and donkeys and scattered along the public areas. It's really despicable, this low level of care and conscience that the tourists and pousada owners exhibit here.

This beach is on the way to the Jericoacoara Village, and has some restaurant options and a long sand lane, is good to visit on the lunchtime and to get into the sea...

There is absolutely nothing there unless you kitesurf. Great kitesurfing beach. Better than Jeri. But the water is not nice to just go and swim. Very choppy and lots of sloppy waves. Lots of Debris on the beach as well.
