- Rebeca SSantana de Parnaiba, SP2 contributionsVery good!I went at the end of the day, it was very empty. And I didn't get to see many things, then I went to the Feira by the sea and compared prices. Prices varied depending on the store, some items on the market were cheaper and others more expensive than at the fair. But as I went during a rainy day, the market was well worth it, as even the parking lot is covered.Visited February 2024Traveled with familyWritten February 26, 2024
- Sonia ElizabethSao Paulo, SP28 contributionsDon't get excited.A typical center of tourist cities, very large, with products for all pockets, beautiful pieces of crafts and industrialized products found everywhere. Lots of chestnut, ripping and pings. I didn't find any restaurant with a tasteful face.....a place that deserved air conditioning. The price of some items was more expensive than the famous fair on Av. Beira Mar, which surprised me.Visited September 2024Traveled soloWritten September 23, 2024
- João RTauberrettersheim, Germany10 contributionsCentral Market of FortalezaThe market has 5 floors. We were there on a Tuesday, it was very quiet. The place is poorly ventilated, as you go upstairs the temperature goes up. From the 3rd floor, the access ramps were blocked and we made the climb by the stairs. There's an elevator. The same products that are on the market, there are also at the fair in Av. Beira Mar. For us, it was much more comfortable and cheap to buy at the fair.Visited November 2024Traveled with familyWritten November 21, 2024

We decided to visit a true cultural treasure in the city: the Central Market of Fortaleza, the largest in Latin America!
The Central Market is a magical place that transported us to the essence of Ceará culture. With its 559 boxes, it is a crafts paradise, where we find unique pieces made with great care by local artisans. From nets, embroidery, jewelry to pieces in leather, wood and straw, each detail is a masterpiece that reflects the richness of the northeastern tradition.
And that's not all! The market is also known for the typical flavors of the Northeast. We enjoy delicious food in four restaurants that serve authentic regional dishes, a true feast for the palate!
The experience was unforgettable! The Central Market enveloped us in its unique atmosphere, and the smiles of the artisans and traders made all the difference. Despite the harassment, their affection and dedication enchant any visitor.
Oh, and we can't forget the ease of access! Ramps, elevators and stairs are available on all floors, making the visit much more comfortable and inclusive.
We strongly recommend a visit to the Central Market of Fortaleza! Discover the soul of Ceará culture, take home unique pieces and enjoy the gastronomic wonders of the Northeast. Get ready to be enchanted and fall in love with this special place!

The market is very big. On hotter days the upper floors get very hot, there is almost no ventilation. As for products, there are many handicraft options, and in terms of prices, I didn't find it very different from other fairs I went to in Fortaleza.

This place offers an incredible variety of local crafts and clothing products. The space is very spacious and safe. The most convenient prices are on the top level and on the lowest level, which leads to the parking lot. Bathrooms need more hygiene

Waste of time, they only sell crap cheap made stuff, I bought a beach bag there which is following to bits after 2 days.
Very shady area at the city centre across the Rd was fully of homeless drugged people, I didn’t feel safe at all, I nearly ask the taxi driver to take me back to the hotel but I fortunately it was a Uber and couldn’t do that.
Don’t waste your time!

Come in time, due to the large number of stores, very good self-service on the ground floor, arrive early as the mixes run out quickly. Note the stores in which you are interested in a product. Very busy traffic, take Uber. Variety of products from handicrafts, clothing, sweets and cashew products.

Large, sort-of indoor market. Lots of stores, but not a huge amount of variety. Some listed prices, some places bargaining is expected. On Sunday it was pretty sleepy. Bathrooms were pretty good which is a rarity in public places here. This night market in Beira Mar is more interesting and has all the same stuff.

Run away. It's not worth the cost to go there. It is not a traditional market, but just a cluster of crafts and travel souvenir shops. Inside it is clean, but the outside area is a real chaos, like the nearby cathedral with rubbish everywhere. Mixture of people's poor education with the neglect of public authorities. Choose the seaside market, which is even more complete with products. Don't go to avoid damaging your impression of this beautiful city, Fortaleza.

We visited this mercado while on a tour of Fortaleza. It's very large with dozens of vendors, manyof which have the same thing. Unfortunately, there's a lot of tourist junk. Also note that it's semi-outdoors......it's covered but there's no AC so it was stifling hot inside.

A big circular market with four floors crammed with small shops that offers very good prices on mostly Brazil-made goods. Clothes dominates - T-shirts, shorts, dresses, bikinis, shirts, shoes, bags, towels... you name it. All to very reasonable prices and still margins for haggle!
Normal price for a T-shirt here is about 3 US dollars and beautiful tulle dresses for little girls for less than 9 US dollars.
Also there is a lot of hammocks in different shapes for sale.
Two restaurants with local food is in operation and in the basement floor you find a suco-stand that produes tasty juices of any kind on the spot.
A great place to visit at least one time during a Fortaleza stay. Open all days, but on sundays the number of open shops is reduced and the prices might be higher - especially if you are just arrived and not has got the suntan in place yet...

The Mercado Central (Central market) sure is a place to see. A place to spend a few ours checking the biggest variety of Fortaleza’s handicrafts, lots of things to buy from an incredible variety of clothes, shoes, leather bags and foods, as cashews and Brazilian nuts, plus the cocadas (coconut candy) are awesome .
But what I consider a find is a juice place on the parking area of the central market. Just where you pay for parking. Fantastic the quality of the juices and very cheap. If you go there don’t miss this find.

O mercado central tem ar condicionado? Se não tem, é muito quente?
Written August 15, 2023

Poderiam me indicar um bom restaurante? Agradeço quem puder responder.
Written June 28, 2019
