We popped in as it was one of the main tourist attractions. Nothing special, it is a lighthouse. The Sao Diogo Fort, further down is definitely worth popping in. Great view and awesome and interactive exibition.
A big place to shop, all the brands, big brands.
A little expensive.
If you like the quick food you'll find a large floor for these brands.
You could walk from the hotels in Barra is a 10/15 minutes slow.
Be safe walking before sunset...More
The mall was beautifully decorated for Christmas and many activities was going for children's.. variety of collections ., all branded items .. big food court with many cuisines.. it's in the Center of the city.
I love this mall. It was a great experience I went with friends I just met and the quality of the stores is top notch and there are several restaurant options (as well as shopping). Went back the next day!
Just 3 blocks away from the beach Praia da Barra with the look any american mall could have, but full of shops with national brands and design, that is really beautiful and elegant. And the public... as beautiful, exotic and diverse as the country. Worth...More

Nevertheless, perhaps some tips / impressions of Salvador from my family trip (wife, 6-year old daughter and I) are worthwhile - in no particular order: 1. Like most Brazilians and people in Salvador, spending time in air-conditioned shopping...More

As you say, your trip was not perhaps representative of any itinerary of a typical tourist, especially a foreign tourist, in the Salvador area. Glad you had a nice vaca with the family. Thanks for posting.

Salvador Trip Report - February 2009 (5 Replies)
So this is part II of my trip report, which will focus on other things aside from Carnaval. As I mentioned before, we stayed at Studio Do Carmo (excellent). When we were not dancing in Carnaval, we went to the beaches (full day activity!). We didn't really do much other sight-seeing (sad, yes, i know, but we only had limited time...). We went on the Ladeira, and did not see any safety issues as we had previously been warned about, but we were also going during the day. We shopped...More
