Two levels of pretty much the same merchandise at each booth. 80% trinkets made in China, 20% local. Prices listed don’t always reflect the actual price. We didn’t bother to find out if they would negotiate because there wasn’t anything we wanted to buy. Unfortunate!

I’m glad my brother and I stopped in here before heading up the elevator. I felt safe inside the market but keep close eye on your valuables. Temperature checks and alcohol hand wash were mandated upon entry. I bought a cute backpack for 15 reals. I bought a cute shot glass I didn’t see at any other shops.

For me, it was worth it because I wanted to buy flour and I found it there. But, I found it much weaker than I imagined. All stalls sell the same products. If, for food, they sell flour, chestnuts, peppers. Whether, crafts, magnets, mugs, etc. I expected to find a greater diversity of products: fruits, cheeses, etc., etc.
Note: I don't know if it's because it's under construction and has reduced capacity. You'll see when the work is finished, the structure will become more interesting and diverse.

It is under renovation, but most of the stores are open. It is a market located in the lower city, close to the Lacerda elevator with boxes (+200) of handicrafts, food (pepper, cocada) arts items and restaurants. Great option to buy a souvenir from Salvador.

The market was lively and full of many souvenirs to choose from, yet it seemed as it could have been any other market in Brasil or other part of the world.

You’ll get many calls into shops and offers. Although you may find a good deal or two.

A tourist market with typical Bahian products. It's worth visiting before Pelourinho. Visit the second floor, the stores on this one are cheaper than the ones on the first floor. Products at Mercado Modelo cost half the price at Pelourinho (they both sell practically the same things). If you don't believe it, go to Pelourinho and then go back to shopping (hahaha).

Mercado Modelo is nothing more than a place for a quick stopover. The prices for souvenirs charged by shopkeepers/sellers are a bit abusive precisely because it is a well-known tourist spot. The restaurants are not attractive and the prices charged are not worth the stop either. Clean bathrooms, well maintained, but very hot, there is no ventilation, just a few windows. I don't consider it an unmissable place, but if it's your first time in Salvador, it's worth a quick visit.

Nothing authentic here, lots of made in China souvenirs and the food is at the best average. Crowded, but it has nothing to do with a Brazilian covered market since there are no original stand anymore. Go visit a real market, for craftwork and souvenirs you'll find more interesting things around the Pelourinho.

Every section had the same kind of items a few better and few ok quality. Not many people hawking their wares, so that was relaxing-ish.

A few booths had unique items. As long as you walk all the way through it, you'll find something unique.

The restaurant up top (named for a woman, I can't remember), there are 2, I went to the left one. It was meh, maybe the other one was better.

A charming place, it's a shame that due to major renovations it's difficult to walk around the shops. There is a wide variety of high quality crafts. The building is very well preserved as it was built during the time of Dom Pedro II - 1861.
