a trip to Ilha dos Frades is an amazing option for a day off. tours from R$ 50 will take you all day long to amazing beaches close to Salvador. the boat has live music and board service, with fruits included for free in the price and they sell lots of cocktails and beers. don’t miss out the roskas with seasonal fruits, they’re delicious and costs R$ 15. make sure you’ll enjoy a lot this trip!

We paid $65 through viator for this trip (included hotel pick up and the boat ride) however we quickly learned after talking to others you can pay approx $10USD for the boat ride if you buy the ticket at the marina; near the lower area of pelourinho. The boat ride includes two stops at iiha dos frades and schooner. The first has a 20R fee, the second doesn’t. First has a beach area with a restaurant and is absolutely beautiful. The second has lunch available for 40R and is a buffet. There are also horses available to ride for a fee (though they looked very sickly/week). Overall good trip and we are glad we went... in future, I would just get an Uber to the marina and save yourself $50USD

The Frades Island is 2 hrs. away from Salvador. I took boat excursion throu Bahia Premium tours. 70 Reais per person. The boat excursion included hotel pick-up and drop-off. All day trip which included Frades Island and Itaparica Island. Onboard a second party boat, you get free fruit and a Samba band. Drinks are extra, Beer is 4 Reais and Caipirinhas are 6 Reais. They also offer water and soft drinks for a fee. At Itaparica you can have lunch for 28 Reais per person open buffet, desert and coffee included.

This place was so beautiful I wish I had made the plan to stay all day. The boat ride does two islands, the second is not as nice but has an amazing buffet. Know that when you dock to the island, you have to pay extra to enter the beach. (wierd) The water is so warm and clean, there are no motor boats around making noise and polluting the water. There is food and drink available but I did not have any. I will definitely go back.

It's a beautiful trip from Terminal Turístico Marítimo, in front of Mercado Modelo, to the isle. The trip lasts about 1 hour and 30 minutes and costs BRL 40 per person - although we paid BRL 35. There was a band playing typical music; bad but fun after all. Beverage is available for sale throughout the trip as well as clean toilets. In the isle we had a tasteful grilled fish in one of the tents by the beach for BRL 40, which was fairly priced. BRL 6 for a coconut water is far too expensive though. Sadly we only stayed there for a couple of hours since the schooner was meant to take us to Itaparica island. If you're willing to stay in Ilha dos Frades all day you must rent a entire schooner - the smallest one was a 36 seats for BRL 3,700. Loved it!

This was just fabulous -- a great boat ride across the bay from Salvador, with lovely fruits, a good band and caparinhas (and other drinks). Then we reached Frades, and had a beautiful, beautiful beach with a special section for the people from the boat, more capararinhas and fried cheese, and wonderful swimming in warm, gentle water. The second part of the trip took us to a beach in Itaparica for lunch. The water was so shallow that we had to transfer (that is climb over the side of the boat) to a smaller boat, and then wade into the beach. We loved it, but others might not. Lunch was great. They also offered a historical tour of a nearby part of the island. That was interesting, but less wonderful than the rest. The whole thing was an amazing deal, and extraordinarily relaxing. It was not the most educational part of our stay, but it was something that Brazilians on vacation (and perhaps even folks from Salvador) might do as a trip.

This excursion is commonly known as Paseio as llhas. We booked this full day excursion with Prive Tur. 100 Reais per person and kids 50% discount. We had a great experience and pleasant day out of the city. The tour picks you up at 8:30am from Barra. You will be driven to the Marina Yacht Basin and from there your voyage in catamaran is about 1h30min. The first stop is the Island Do Frades, a beautiful and well looked after idyllic marine nature reserve in the Baia de Todos os Santos. The beach is of tropical waters and smooth currents. This island has achieved a blue flag rating because of its high standards of conservation and environmental efforts to preserve it. At around noon, you are taken to the Itaparica island where a buffet lunch is offered at a nearby restaurant at an additional cost of 45 Reais, as an optional. You have one hour to explore the historic center of Itaparica on your own, or there is also a guided tour at the cost. Sadly on both islands, we saw many stray dogs, some of them showing signs of mange. We can't believe that with all the money that comes to these islands as a result of tourism, a budget can't be used for local animal rescue organizations to assist these helpless animals. On your way back to Salvador, a local band will delight you with beautiful samba music, the best entertainment on board! Big thank you to our guide Enmanuel and his team for making this a special day for us.

This is a typical tropical beach with warm and calm water. i arrived with an organized trip you can book wiht travel agencies or with the help of your hotel receptionist, but I understaqnd that there are boats departing from the port in front of the Mercado Modelo and that it can be done alone too. If you like tropical beaches this one certainly ranks in the top league.

If you have kids you should go for sure, the way to there is animated, as the boat offers food, drinks and live samba, so the hour and half gets past very quick, the beach is just out of this world, I've been in many beaches already but this one is top, is my favorite at this time, the kids loved, the waves are slow and the water is warm, wonderful.
I need to go back there, and I advise go there before it gets to expensive, cos they are building a new complex in there and imagine the prices

Excellent day trip to Friars and Itaparica. Leaves Salvador port at 9am and returns at 17:30. On time too!
Travelling time is about 90 minutes to Friars where you dock at a small beach and have to go ashore by small boat. The beach is samll and sandy and there is a bar and several vendors coming round selling the usual souvenirs. On the boat therewas a band playing brazilian music and a cameraman taking film, all so you can pay more at the end! We were on the island for just over an hour but the loading and unloading via small boat wasted a lot of time. We then went to Itaparica and landed at a beach where we were able to buy lunch (R$30 a head) and a bus ride was offered to visit the island (R$15 and definitely not worth it). We bought ice creams from a Kibon man and were ripped off to the tune of R$10 each ice cream with the excuse that he had to go to the mainland to get them. After the bus trip we were hurried back onto the boat and geot back to Salvador at 17:30 as scheduled. Very worthwhile trip if you don't mind choppy seas. Just beware that you will be asked for a tip at every possible opportunity.
