It 's probably the only place where you can catch a boat to Morro de São Paulo. The facilities are not comfortable. The stafff is rushed and unfriendly. Unfortunately there is no alternative

Itaparica island is the large island in Todos os Santos bay where Salvador is located. It is abou one and half hour boat trip, but the warm and quite waters in Itaparica beaches with restaurantes serving in the beach it is a good experience. It worth also to do in the same trip the island of Frades about half an... More

Take a ferry over to the island for a cheap price. Once you get there, know where you're going and don't hang out at the dangerous train station. A local driver toured us around the island a bit and took us to an unspoiled stretch of beach past the "old town." Life seemed very slow here and almost rastafarian. Water... More

Take a ferry to the island from the terminal maritime in Cidade Baixa. The crossing only takes about 45 minutes and boats go roughly every half hour. Once there you can explore the beaches on foot or take a taxi for a tour of the island and take in the town of Itaparica with its old Dutch built fortification. You... More

Good day trip or research one of the beach areas and stay there for a couple of nights R&R, typical Baian foods, quiet lifestyle in comparison to Salvador

I took the ferry from the tourist terminal for less than 5 real and then a combi to itaprica, this town is amazing, sleepy but gorgeous , hardly anyone there and especially no tourists. You might have to wait a bit to get a combi or shared taxi back to the port

This is rather large island, it has ocean front, river front and mixed, all sort of of acquatic experiences plus a rich vegetation/jungle. The place is well known for old Portuguese Colonial sites, from 400+ yrs old churchs, villages, forts, and a fantastic selection of beaches and water sports/activities, all of it under a easy going and relaxing environment.

Worth a trip over to the island - the boat ride alone is worth the tiny cost of a ticket. When arriving, get a taxi down to one of the nicer beaches - our taxi driver recommended one and although we think he gained commission it was still a lovely spot to idle away an afternoon and bathe in the...
