I went to all three 2013 Confederations Cup's games held in Fonte Nova, and it is a completely different experience from going to stadiums in Brazil before they had to adopt FIFA standards. It's much more comfortable, and of course much more expensive, but soccer as a product became much more expensive anyway.

Arena Fonte Nova would deserve 5/5 review, if it weren't for two important things: 1) the distance between the rows could be bigger, but it seems they did the way they did to squeeze a few more spectators in. It only gets unconfortable when someone (including you) needs to leave his/her seat, but it is already annoying enough; 2) the food in the bars was VERY POOR during the Confeds. Only a few options, like an overpriced and tasteless hot-dog, chips, chocolates, and a basic beverages. Yes, there were also authorized vendors inside the stadium with popcorn and ice cream, but even with them it was far from satisfying.

The first problem is structural so expect for the same in 2014; the second can be easily solved in time for the World Cup.

Apart from these minor problems, the experience is fantastic: very good views wherever your seat is, great acoustics, easy access to all sectors, more than enough gates considering the total capacity, enough bathrooms, fan shops and bars.

Easily accessible venue two blocks from the Campo da Polvora subway station. Excellent views from most upper seats but I stayed on the ground level and watched while standing behind center midfield sections. I walked from my hotel in Pelourinho and the area is safe as long as you stay on main, well lit streets. Beer prices were comparable to restaurants but there were plenty of vendors right outside the stadium for cheap pre-game options. The crowds were colorful, energetic and as you'd expect, extremely passionate! Great place to see world class talent.

My brother and I went to this game for the world cup as Americans and were treated terribly by the MP's, ushers, and in general the entire Brazilian community at the arena. We were sitting in a section with a mix of U.S. fans and Brazilians who had just gone to watch the game. They were getting angry at us for standing and wanted us to sit down, which we wouldn't. Our country was playing in the the World Cup, no way, in our eyes, were we going to sit down because they wanted to sit and relax and watch a game. We were emotionally invested in this and they wanted a casual night. They begin throwing popcorn and us and getting the ushers to tell us to sit down and we refuse. There was an entire Belgium supporter section on the shelf below us standing and rocking and cheering to their country. As the time went on the popcorn turned to spitting on us. The ushers got the MP's to talk to us in a broken attempt at English (note, I'm not lambasting their attempt at translation, rather the lack of efficiency it provided). I attempted to show them the giant glob of spit on the bill of my hat which they ignored and went on to tell us that is was the rule of the stadium that 'EVERYONE' had to sit down. Again, I told them that if they made everyone sit down, the entire Belgian supporter section sit down as well, then we would. We wanted to support our country and not be subject to this unfair treatment because a couple of Brazilians springed some cheap seats to a game and wanted to watch it casually. After being cornered against a wall by the MP's and having weapons pulled on us, another translator/usher came to speak with us. She told us that we were going to be escorted from the arena. This was absolutely ridiculous. We came to support our country and were being kicked out for doing so. Unreal. As we left the MP's we convinced her to let us join another group of Americans. The treatment we received was unreal. I don't mind being criticized 'why wouldn't you just sit down' but if they were watching Brazil play, or Bahia, or Botafogo, or Corinthians, you name it, they would not have been sitting and would have been insulted if asked to do so. So, yeah, in the end this was a terrible experience made by the entire Brazilian community we were in contact with at the Arena Fonte Nova and Salvador certainly didn't prove to be 'Brazil's capital of happiness.'

This arena was rebuild after a tragic accident and before the world cup. It is close to Fique attraction what ensurebyou an unique opportunity to visit a stadium in front of a big lake. If there is a classical match Bahia x Vitoria, try it!

this stadium is probably better than most of european ones. thanks to the worldcup, it has been completely renewed and is located in a small valley, with a little lake and park just near it. I don't know how it works usually, but its location in the middle of favelas doesn't make it a nice place to go by foot, apart during the WC and the thousands of cops that were deployed all along the road. Again, during the WC very poor bus services were available nearby the stadium, and the taxis were not allowed to come in the area and we should have walked for about 20 mins until we found taxis at a gas station. Brasilian organization!

Went to my first soccer/futbol match in Brazil (Saturday, August 17) Bahia vs Santos (Sao Paulo). The fans for Bahia are extremely passionate and very vocal when the refs make questionable calls against their futbol team. After 90 minuets of running up and down the massive field the score ended in a tie; Bahia 0 and Santos 0. Fonte Nova Stadium is new with all modern facilities. Salvador is now set to host (8) futbol matches during next year's FIFA World Cup 2014. Go Brazil!

My husband and I booked a tour through the Arena Itaipava - the Esporte Clube Bahia Home and we were greeted by the stadium tour guide that spoke English - Mateus (which was a plus for us because my husband doesn't speak Portuguese). We were delighted by the whole tour through the stadium, locker room, the deck, the boxes, we saw all,. Mateus did an excellent job entertaining us and giving us the history of this beautiful stadium. All for a small cost of under $50 Brazilian Real each person - amazing deal for 2 hours. Then we visited the newly opened Bahia Boutique - Esquadrao Boutique ? and were disappointed with the chaos inside of it - didn't have the basic stuff for the fans to purchase - of 5 items we requested, they didn't have, drawers and storage empty, confusion, too many employees and no action - was sad, want to buy my son, that is a diehard fan of Bahia Team a jersey and they didn't have - 2019 Jersey???? wow. The bathroom didn't have toilet paper??? the floor attendant spoke English enough to help my husband while I was looking for the other stuff we had on list and this is it - with better management, this will be a great moneymaker for the team but need to clean up the chaos. Hard to walk around the store...Clothe everywhere and everything we asked for they didn't have ....Was happy with the tour though.
