"Praça Castro Alves" means Carnival! And a lot of fun! This is one of the busiest areas of Salvador all year round, but principally during the Carnival season. The square honors "Castro Alves", a famous Brazilian poet. A magnificent statue (by Italian acclaimed sculptor Pasquale de Chirico - the same of the "Monument to Jesus - The Savior" at Morro do Cristo) in its centers, immortalizes the poet and marks his burial crypt. Due to its location, right on the way between Salvador's Upper and Lower cities, it offers wonderful views of "Baía de Todos os Santos" and its blue waters. Fancy hotels - "Fasano" and "Fera Palace" - are right there! One last remark: the square is being totally restored now and soon it will be back to its old glory. Enjoy!
