Well laid-out museum with helpful staff and wonderful displays. Loads of videos with interesting material and synchronised narrative on audio sets. We spent a fascinating hour or two there and it explained so many things that had mystified us about Carnival. We loved it!

Amazing displays of the art of carnaval. Beautiful masks, clothing, books on its history. Well thought out displays! Great interactive spaces to learn some of the dances. Fun for adults and children.

Very unpleasant experience at La Casa do Carnaval for us! I am sure the exhibition is fascinating (if you have access to the audioguides - which we couldn't, we never why), but the staff was quite hostile and expedious, maybe because we had children with us.

This museum is a wonderful place to learn about Carnival in Bahia- it’s origins and evolution are fascinating. The Audio in English was easy to understand and worked beautifully with the high-quality videos. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and recommend this museum as a top spot to visit while in Salvador.
Three considerations for improvement:
The music playing in the galleries is a little too loud and makes hearing on the headsets challenging at times. It should be reduced.
Another suggestion for older adults or disabled: something to sit on would be welcome because most of the audio stations run several minutes and standing in one place can be challenging.
Having at least cool drinks offered at the cafe would be welcome. It was closed when we were there and didn’t look like it been open for quite some time.

It’s a great museum for those who want to get the knowledge and a feeling of the Carnaval. In a completely new building the museum offers an audioguide in English. Many film to see on big screens help understand the different aspects of the Carnaval : history, carnaval in various towns, music, costumes, samba … In a separate room we took some pieces of costume and we danced samba mimicking the dancers on a screen. It has been a great fun experience and an highlight of the visit.

Opened in February, 2018, Casa do Carnaval is a modern, state-of-the-art museum. It was expensive, at R$30 reais, but worth every penny, and more. When I entered the cool, air-conditioned space I was promptly greeted by a guide and when I passed into the first room, he was there waiting for me with an audio guide — available in both English and Portuguese.
Each room provides a different bit of Salvador Carnaval history, from the origins of Carnaval in Salvador, to the role of women, to the role and importance of the Afro-Brazilian community, to how it has influenced music around the world.
I spent almost two hours on the main floor alone, just listening to audio. From there, you go up the stairs (also has an accessible elevator) to more multi-media exhibits, including two dance halls. Finally, on the third floors is a balcony with a cafe and an unforgettable view of the Bay of All Saints.
The basement, which I wasn't able to get to, has a library and archive for the students of music who come to learn about Salvador's rich musical heritage.

Pelorinio has a family friendly Carnival in the historic center of Salvador. Less crowded then the other circles and that makes it much easier to enjoy and absorb the music and dancing. I choose this one as my favorite.

It could be more interesting. I don't recommend it for anyone who has little time to visit. There are many other interesting things in the region. I went with a friend from another state and he was frustrated.

Interactive museum full of references with lots of music, costumes and chronology of the Bahian and Brazilian carnival. On Wednesdays, visiting is free. It's worth visiting the terrace where there is a cafe with a beautiful view of the sea
