I love Brazil and many places in Brazil, but this is one of my favourite places. I love Porto Seguro (in Summer) and all that it has to offer and one of the things it has to offer is Passarela do alcool.
Passarela do alcool is just a few steps away from the beach and it is a street which If I remember well comes to life at night time.
I have been to Porto Seguro about 20 years ago and I am sure it is much more developed nowadays, but at the time I loved everything about it, or almost everything.
For those who doesn't know what the name means it means "Street of alcohol" and it is a place with loads of barracks, one after another where they make unbelievable amazing cocktails with condensed milk, fruits and of course alcohol. I don't drink, but when I was in Porto Seguro I stopped at least in 10 of those to have a cocktail in each.
On one side of the street you have the amazing beach of Porto Seguro and on the other side you have loads of bars, one after the other with live music.
The atmosphere is incredible and if it is summer time there should be many tourists on the street whatever it is daytime or evening.
Porto Seguro is the Place where the Portuguese arrived when they discovered Brazil on the 22nd April 1500. This city is packed with history with the Old City and the colonial houses. Gilberto Gil, a Brazilian singer has a house in the old city. There is also or there should be a tree called "Pau Brasil" which is the tree after which Brazil was named. They still have indigenous living in Coroa Vermelha and they sell their artefacts and some of them dress on their native costume. Tourists can also visit the many wonderful beaches around, take a trip in one of their boats called Skunna to the middle of the sea, where they will get off the boat and swim on a natural pool amongst many beautiful fish, dance axe music on the beach in front of a very big stage and eat great food in many of their restaurants. Be carefull with dendê oil, as it has a strong scent and it can be too heavy for your stomach. I am from Sao Paulo and despite loving Bahia food I hate dendê oil.
The sad side about Bahia is the people. They are very nice and welcoming people, but they are very relaxed and sometimes a bit slow. You should relax and don't stress and be patient and repeat your question or make them very clear. I will give you an example below. Also make sure that you have the right amount of money if you are buying something from someone on the street and on the beach as people can be very poor and they won't sell you anything if you don't have the right amount of money.
I could tell many of my stories, but not enough space here. So I chose this one.
I was on the beach and I ordered a cold pineapple juice. The young guy went behind a covered area (the kitchen) and 5 min later he came back to tel me that they didn't have i
pineapple juice. I then ordered an apple juice. He went back and returned 5 min later to tell me they didn't have apple juice. To make it shorter, I kept ordering and he kept going inside and taking 5 min to return to tell me the same thing. I then decided to ask for a cold cognut. Again he went there and 5 min he came back."-Sorry we don't have any cold cognut". "-What do you have cold?" I asked. "-Nothing, Sir" he said.
Bear that in mind and you will love Passarela do Alcool and Porto Seguro.

It's a good place to buy souvenirs, things are very cheap.
There are good restaurants and market with tipical Bahia foods.
There is a lot of options of local drinks (better for the ones who enjoy the sweet ones).

You must come to Passarela do Alcool for some of the fancy drinks the vendors offer just be prepared to walk a lot and also to do some shopping around some of the many street side stores they usually open early evening.

This is just a small part of the city centre with some shops, restaurants and bars. Go in the evening to walk around and buy some souvenirs (they are cheap and nice!) They sell everything over there: from bathing suits and funny t-shirts to typical sweets made with coconut and very colorful drinks. By the way if you want to try the local drink ask for "capeta". It is usually made with condensed milk, vodka, guaraná berry extract, ice cubes and cinnamon and it costs about R$10 (or US$5). If you decide to have dinner there, you will find a lot of nice restaurants (pizza, pasta, brazilian food, etc). There are ATM machines nearby and also a bus stop.

There are plenty of shops here that are actually reasonably priced. We just felt like this street and porto seguro in general had a slightly run-down vibe. We stayed in Arraial D'ajuda, which is so charming.

Nice street to stroll along in the evenings, for food, handcrafts and souvenirs. Brazillian atmosphere with music and people, but still felt very safe. Must try: the crepes from a little stall in the centre... delicious!

This place has a large selection of cocktail stands, with a wide selection of drinks. Just choose your poison and have fun. We went to Point da Carmen, a nice lady that did some very good siriguela caipirinhas.
