Nice Sanctuary doing great work

This is a wonderful place to learn more about the local turtle population and the importance of it to the local economy and ecosystem. Many docents around to share facts and information. Not a big place and you see everything in about 90 minutes. A few other marine animals to see. Great for children. Very interactive.

Nice place, but cruel to animals
May 2018 • Family
We visited this place and saw the sharks being fed and the small turtles being dug up. Very nice experience.

They should however consider the wellfare of the turtles and not let them stay in such small pools. It’s a discrace that a place that is supposed to help the animals are not spending any efforts in ensuring good conditions for the turtles. A turtle need more space than 3x3 meters in a pool with nothing else than water!

Good to know there are people who care about the environment and do something about it. You can tell it's out of love.

Projeto Tamar in Praia do Forte: a relevant , well organized initiative to sensibilize the people - expecially the young generation, but not only - for a nice future of the our world.
I remember also the site for marine Turtle in Linosa (Italy)

The Name is" Projeto Tamar"

If you ask somebody about the "open air Marine Turtle museum" they will likely say "oh you want to go to the Projeto Tamar, in Praia do Forte."

The whole coast is a protected turtle site from Aranbepe north east and this is the central and perhaps the most important site. The access to the Projeto Tamar costs money, but the experience is so nice you will be glad that you went. kids love it. During the months of feb - april you may get the treat of watching baby turtle releases from nests that have had to be rescued due to beach erosion or predation, these events are always a great thrill for the kids and teary eyed adults are frequent as well. There is a shark tank and a petting tank as well as live sea turtle exhibits.

Don't miss it and don't forget to buy something from the shop the proceeds help support the project.

Had to see it coz it was there. Not much else other than beaches and a small town to see in the area so worth a quick visit.
