This is one of the most relevant colonial times monument in Ilheus. Not only for its architecture but also for its history since 1556. Saint George is Ilheus patron. It's a tiny church and nowadays is under renovation but it worth a visit as there's a sacred art museum nearby.

There is no way in Tripadvisor's options to write that this main photo is not the Igreja Matriz de Sao Jorge dos Ilheus, it is a photo of the Catedral de São Sebastião.

A church you can have a look at when you pass. It is in the historical centre, so it will not any extra walking because of this.

It's a beautiful chapel but I'm not fan of visiting many churches. It was okay but it was also closed because of the holiday.

a landmark in the middle of urban life, people seem to actually attend mass around here! At any given time, you can witness some singing, elderly praying at one of the stations of the cross!

As I said, it´s a beautiful testimony of the past. Unhappily, it´s closed and you can only see its outside
