Historic building on the waterfront

Didn't manage to get inside, but the building is another elegant relic from the rubber boom times and pleasant to see in passing.

As expected this building sits on the waterfront and is one of the first things seen by the river traveler. It is of ornate 19th century design and is of interest to lovers of architecture

The customs house is composed of a floating dock as well as the house itself. This was the main gateway to Manaus over a century ago. The dick was considered a technical marvel because it rises and falls with the seasonal water levels which can vary by 20 metres. The customs house was imported from England in 1906 as a... More

This building could be seen by us from our cruise ship balcony thus we walked to it several times. It is not open to the public. The building looks very nice from the outside. Trucks loaded with good s line up starting early in the morning as they wait for small river boats to come in so the goods can... More

This building and associated lighthouse are located right on the waterfront near the ferry terminal. It is certainly an interesting building and reminiscent from when Manaus was a thriving rubber trading city. Whilst the best views of it are from out the side doors of the terminal it can also be seen from the waterfront road if you happen to... More

A beautiful building on the waterfront in Manaus, the Alfandega stands out like a beacon. The lighthouse attached to this building has a fascinating farol (lantern room) at the apex. Although probably no longer in use, it is possible to get reasonably close, with permission, to photograph it.
