We took a private tour with Amazon Explorers. Very expensive, but safe and worth it. Meeting of the waters, Lake January, Native village, diving with BOTOS and lunch at Pousada Jacaré. We left from Tropical Hotel pier at 8 am sharp and returned at arround 4 pm. A long speed boat trip, with a local guide and the most extraordinary boatman - Sr. Bida. He took us through some amazing igarapés, turned off the engine so we could hear the forest! great. We didn´t dive - only looked at the Botos beeing fed. Saw some vitorias-regias. Took photos with the Tatuyos - indians and ate a very honest lunch. Had to wait at the restaurant for a tropical storm to pass before returning to Manaus but even that was a thrill. The boat did "flap" a lot. Only acept tours certified by EMBRATUR - help protect our environement. Do not go for the cheap non certified ones!

As part of our tour to see Encontras das Aguas (meeting of the waters) we had lunch at Parque Ecologico Januari (good food) and were able to by locally made souvenirs. Then we were instructed to follow a board walk that was quite a few meters off the ground to see the giant lily pads. The boardwalk was very unsteady and I had visions of us plummeting into the caiman infested waters below. And when we got to the end there was a wide open space with the Lilly pads herded and penned in like a bunch of cattle. They were neat to see but felt contrived. After walking back over the board walk we then got into speed boats and drove through the jungle (during the low water season you would walk). It was very cool to ride through the jungle in a boat. We were brought to a huge tree at which the boats stopped and then locals in small canoes descended with wild animals they had captured that, for a price, tourists could hold and take pictures with. The confusing part was that the lead tour guide allowed this even though on the paperwork given when registering for the trip warned that the tour company did not condone this and requested you to not pay these people so that they would stop doing it and leave the animals be. It was really cool to see these animals up close (anacondas, caimen, sloth, monkeys) but I hope they are treated well by their humans.
In summary, food was good, souvenirs were good, lily pads ok, tour through jungle good but animals had mixed emotions.

When we visited, the river was at the highest flood. Walkways were under water and ground animals absent. The giant lilies were not in bloom and a little ragged. BUT the monkeys gathered for our bananas and many had tiny babies!

We hired a boat guide to take us to the Meeting of the Rivers & Janauari Ecological Park. It was about $75/each & lasted two hours led by a friendly, informative guide. We found him across from the market above the AJATO terminal. The group had name tags & seemed legit & not pushy. We really enjoyed the tour. I imagine it's quite different in the rainy season but at the end of the dry season there wasn't much water & the lilies were fairly small at about 5'. It's a short but hot walk from the river & there were lots of birds, spider monkeys, & a few caiman. Not to mention one of the biggest trees we've ever seen. When the water is high, I'm pretty sure you boat through. There's a nice restaurant with knick-knacks at the beginning of the village. We didn't eat the food but the people seemed friendly.

I visited the park as part of the Encontra das Aguas package from Manaus.
In the couple of hours that I stayed I was well impressed by the rainforest, especially by some of the very large trees that can be seen. I would recommend that if you are in a large group of people, wait for them to go to lunch and stay behind. I did this and found myself on my own for a good half hour and was able to hear the amazing sounds of the jungle and could see some monkeys and interesting birds. I guess it is better when there aren't too many people around making noise and snapping selfies like there's no tomorrow.
Also be aware that this is not a zoo, so animals such as monkeys may or may not be seen as they are usually high in the tree canopy. To me this is a positive side of the place.

Really enjoyed this tour of Meeting of the Waters and Lake January. We passed lots of interesting things like local houses on stilts, a school boat, floating petrol stations and floating supermarkets. We transferred from our bigger boat to a small canoe for the tour of Lake January. We saw giant water lilies which unfortunately were net in bloom. Also saw plenty of birds mainly egrets. When we were taken back to pick up a bigger boat there were a lot of stalls selling tourist souvenirs in a floating restaurant. Would definitely recommend a tour here.

We visited this natural habitat location on a full day tour of Amazon / Manuas area sites. We stopped for lunch at a lovely floating restaurant before walking up a fairly long 'boardwalk' to a viewing area overlooking a nearby lake and the giant water lilies. They were awesome, some 6 foot wide and larger. We were there in De3cember and so they were just starting to have flower blooms. Everyone enjoyed the many monkeys running about the forest underneath the boardwalk with some coming onto the walkway for an up close encounter. Highly recommend this natural site if you visit the area. The lunch was very good, depending on how you book it will be pre-paid or you pay at the venue for lunch. Beer, etc. is extra in all cases.

Ok to visit but not a must see. They will, push this but it is a tourist trap more than an actual ecological park.

Encontras das Aguas (meeting of the waters) had lunch went on a walk and got to see the giant water lilies. Great location, Amazon was magical, the people were being enabled to support them selves with local crafts. What made it fun was my friend Jennifer isn't afraid of anything, not the rickety board walk, and she touched everything I didnt have the guts to touch so its a great place to go with a friend to laugh and see things I would never see anywhere else. Loved the Amazon.

You leave Manaus port to the other side of the river. There you will find a floating restaurant, handcraft shop and walkway to the beautiful lake where you will find the Vitória Régia pant which floats on the still water. The view is stunning. On the way back, you go through the handcraft shop again and stop at the restaurant for lunch, which is normally included with the ride. Lots of food is served, it does taste really good, fish is great. You will go back home with great pictures and a very unique experience.

Hello, thanks for the info. Which tour company did you use and what was the name of that specific tour. About how much did it cost?
Thanks again!
Written May 3, 2019
Hi,
I hired the tour online through amazontoursbrazil
This particular trip included meeting of the waters, the Janauari park, swimming with river dolphins and visit to a native tribe. The cost was $R 150 or US$ 40. per person.
Hope this helps.

Hullo
I used Amazing Tours.
I googled "Local Tour Operators in Manaus" and then chose one of those advertised. I don't recall the exact name of the tour as several and it was a competitive price. I look to see what is offered, the length of the tour and the cost of it and then decide.

are there big spiders in this park? you know the sort i mean...!
Written August 20, 2016
Hi Wiltshire, I did not see any tarantulas, but that doesn't mean there aren't any there. After all it's the jungle. You likely won't see any though because you walk on a long boardwalk down some steps and to a platform at the end.
