Ipioca is beautiful: quiet, barely anybody - almost like a private beach. My type of beach to go for a walk, kick the water, and enjoy for a few relaxing days.
My husband and went for a walk in one of the mornings and one of the afternoons we were there.
Although we heard about the lack of security and law enforcement in Maceio, and thank goodness nothing happened to us, a lady at our hotel went for a walk and two teenagers approached her with a knife, took her cel, wedding ring, and a little gold necklace she was wearing, besides threatening to kill her. Everything ended up well, with the police getting involved, recovering all her belongings, but nothing will take away the trauma she went through on that beach. And she will probably never go back to the beautiful Maceio.
So here is my advice:
1. If you go for a walk on the beach, don't take anything with you. Wear your bathing suit and nothing else.
2. Go with a group of people (our hotel had a group walk on the beach organized by the hotel everyday, and we heard that a couple of security guards went along).
3. Or, best bet, just enjoy the sand right in front of your hotel.
Yes, I would go back to Ipioca because it's just too beautiful to miss, but I would stay right by my hotel, which was great and perfectly safe (Salinas).

It’s a beautiful and tranquil beach not far from the city center. It wasn’t crowded and the beach was clean.

Ipioca Beach is not easy to reach if you are without a car but it is well worth the trek. With a car, there is parking nearby but without one means walking at least 15 minutes from the street through the residential complex until you reach the sign for Hibiscus (the restaurant located on Ipioca Beach) and from there you continue down the path to the beach.
I was in heaven at this sparsely populated, clean, warm water, soft sand beach. There were no vendors all day (I was there from 1pm to 4pm) and keeping an eye on my things was not an issue. Nor was there loud music or people running around. The atmosphere was conducive to total relaxation and I easily fell asleep on the beach. The waves were almost non-existent and the water so buoyant that I just kicked up my feet and floated effortlessly. There was no algae or any waste in the warm ocean and the sand was so soft on the ocean floor that I stayed knelt down for awhile on my knees to enjoy it.
However if you get hungry or want a drink, the pretty Hibiscus outdoor restaurant is just steps away. Ipioca Beach was my favorite of Brazil´s Northeast beaches.

I must say that the beach itself is perhaps the most beautiful of all Maceció area is a paradise, almost virgin. There is only one resort and no facilities for tourists, but there is a restaurant where you can lunch and stay on the beach in front of him.
On the other hand, being a lonely beach is immensely insecure. On leaving the restaurant, "Tia Neuza" We were boarded by three armed criminals with guns who kidnapped us in our rented car. For long minutes they took us to an empty lot in the middle of where jungle they made us get off the car, took away all our belongings, we stole the car rented and we had to walk all the way by foot to the nearest village. Thank God, they did us no harm to my wife or me.

the beach is really beautiful and very calm. good for family with small children. A bit expense in my opinion for a average beach, at least comparing to others from the same coast. The good thing is that you can walk over 200 meters inside water and still stay safe touching the ground with your feet. The local people over rated this beach in my opinion. The access to the beach is a bit confused, don't wait for clear signaling explaining. the locals will attempt call your attention to go to the right way of the beach. You will need to pay for parking, day use of 5 reais per person, and another 5 reais (the brazilian currency) as couvert for the artists doing performances there (per person) I think that it is too much, honestly. However, the infrastructure offered is quite decent.

Very nice and calm beach. You can choose from sit and pay or bring all your stuff. The second choice is better, because the prices are crazy. This area, from Maceió to Recife is a great coral area. Warm water in a green sea. Fantastic view. Better than Caribe.

We stayed at flat waterfront residence, expensive but good location. Good if you have many sharing the room. The beach is beautiful and windy. Try walking to west and you will see a nice wall of palm trees and have a view on the sand being carried along the shore. Don't forget sunscreen.
