The beach is very busy and not very clean. In the mornings the tide is down and there is seaweed and garbage washed up on shore. The farther north you walk on the beach, the more north east you walk on the beach, the more seaweed there is and can be stinky. But if you walk to the end there is an amazing sandbar that appears at low tide that you can walk out to and the water is so clear that you can do some great snorkelling or just relax in the water. By late afternoon the tide comes up and the beach is littered with garbage from the day's beach goers. Fortunately, the beach is cleaned each evening but it is high tide then so it is not possible to get all the garbage that has made it into the water. Finally, be reminded that this is a city beach in Brazil so there is quite the mix of people so be prepared to see homeless people.

Despite being a good location, the beach is unfit for bathing. There are rides in small boats to natural pools, away from the beach. But virtually all the other urban beaches of Miami are unfit for bathing too (see www.ima.al.gov.br in services - bathing). In the region there are good hotels and access to several restaurants.

This beautiful beach fronts the upscale Pajuçara district of Maceió. There are jangadas to rent that get you to the piscinas naturais, quiosques where you can get a drink or something to eat, a 5km paved walking or biking path, ATMs, an artisan market, a fish market, and so on. You could easily spend a pleasant day here. The only draw back is the seaweed gunk that clogs the Ponta Verde end of the beach and the black water creek that helps to pollute the otherwise pristine waters. This stuff smells when gone tide comes in.

Just a typical urban beach, it was busy, but also a bit messy and perhaps dirty depending on the point of view. There are palm trees, loung chairs parasols and restaurant, but it lacks of the charm other beaches to the North and or South of Maceió do. I would probably say that Jatiuca and pinta verde are nicer beaches.

i live here for the past 4 years so,,, Maceio and its beaches are overrated in my opinion. Jatiuca, pajucara, ponta verde etc. Praia do frances... crowded, noisy, not like in the pictures let me say. i relocated in Sonho Verde, Paripueira and here, you will find great gorgeou beaches which are usually semi deserted 5 days a week and on week-end it is bearable. unless you like crowded, dirty, noisy, environment then Maceio is your desstination. For natural endless beaches, with rivers flowing through, reef you can walk to, piscina natural, good food, good prices, my region, which is 45 min away, shuld be your location. from here you can hop to Maragogy, porto de galinhas, etc.

For a beach that finds itself right at the core of the city it is a a nice place to know and meet people from the Maceio.

It may be a bit disturbing the pressure some of then locals might put on you to buy stuff of the take a tour at the Jangads, but this not by any means something that ruins the experience this average beach can offer

This is a beach where things happen...the way I want it. Lot of people and you can spend many days just looking around you. On Sundays thev shut off the traffic and open the street for youth and Children activities. What I don´t like is the lots of litter on the beach and in the water, and that some parts of the beach are expensive to stay at.

The boat tour to the natural pools in Pajuçara was great! The tour must be done in the morning when the tide is low. The water is crystal clear and we could see several fishes and give them food during the tour!

It's an urban beach so you can't expect it to be like a paradise beach.
But it's a nice one and you have greatbars there.

I was in a beachfront hotel in Pajuçara but this very animated beach seemed unsafe, lots of poor people walking around (not enjoying the beach, please don't get me wrong) and as a tourist I felt like an easy prey. A bit outside of Maceió, beaches are amazing and peaceful.
