A beautiful plaza in the centre of town
Jul 2019
You have not visited Jujuy if you have not walked around this plaza. All of the important and historic buildings are in the immediate area.

Plaza Belgrado is the main plaza in the center of town and is surrounded by several historic buildings including the Cathedral. Cannot miss it.

Really not impressive
Oct 2015 • Couples
Absolutely nothing charming about this square. Poorly maintained and quite dirty, a couple of relatively nice buildings around but nothing exceptional and a lot of traffic. A big disappointment when compared with the beautifully maintained 9 de Julio square in Salta 100km southwards. Can be missed without regrets.

A great spot for a sip of coffee

Manuel Belgrano started life as a lawyer and economist, bécame a politician, and finally a General whose main campaigns were fought in the far North of what is now Argentina. He is credited with creating the design for the country’s flag and is much revered for his overall contribution to South American Independence. We stopped for an extended break in this handsome square on the way back to Salta from Humahuaca on a bus tour. It gave us plenty of time to admire the large garden that fills its center, heavily planted with trees, shrubs and flowers that almost obscure the magnificent equestrian statue of the hero after whom it is named, seen here proudly carrying the flag to which he gave birth. One side of the square is flanked by the elegantly pretty State Legislature in front of which stand an imposing fountain. Most of the surrounding buildings are representative of the better style of Hispano-South American architecture, and it is a delightful spot in which to rest and sip a coffee in the open air.
