The Garden was holding a chrysanthemum flower show during my visit. Of different species, different colours, different shapes, the flowers are arranged into various patterns. You may not like all the patterns, but there must be some which you would appreciate. Admission is not free, but unless you really do not like flower shows, it is worth it. Allow at least 45 minutes for the visit.

This is a great deal like a regional arboretum than just a garden. If you want to see the seasons with a variety of plants this is it.

A very interesting garden with quite a variety of unusual plants. We especially liked the water plants with boardwalks between them.

It's a pretty place within Hirosaki Park, but it's not very extensive and I wouldn't make a special trip just to go see it. But if already in the park (which is DEFINITELY worth a visit), I'd recommend going to see it.

It's a well maintained garden with colourful lighting. It looks even better with the Autumn leaves and trees reflecting in the pond.

The botanical gardens are adjacent to Hirosaki Castle, so it was easy to combine the two.
Unfortunately it was a very wet day and that is not the best time linger and enjoy the flowers, shrubs and trees. But we wandered through and very much wished we could re-visit on a sunny day – what we saw was well presented and well cared for.

Hirosaki Castle is interesting to visit, but at the height of the flowering season, these garden would (for us) be the main reason to visit the park.

Went to visit the Castle which is in fact very small and not really the highlight of this place. The gardens are to real asset and are very well maintained and pleasant to spend a couple of hours strolling around.

Hirosaki Castle Botanical Garden is an extremely well-maintained, beautiful garden with a variety of different garden types, each with their own signature plants. It's situated in one part of the large castle park and you can see a turret of the castle form some part of the garden. There is a combined ticket with the castle and Fujita memorial garden. You can ask the staff at the entrance for a detailed guide map, also available in English.
The guide map gives an overview of the different gardens and the plants visible there. I'd have to say late August might be a bit late to visit, as some summer plants have already withered. The best timing seems to be late July, early August.

One of the highlights of Aomori Prefecture, it is a nice walk from the small castle town - Hirosaki. The garden is spacious and well-kept, we enjoyed looking at the great variety of trees some of which look they've been there forever.
