This is a lovely castle to look at. The inside though (the part you pay for) is a series of bland and old-fashioned displays, exclusively in Japanese, in a fairly dull and unexciting series of rooms. It took me about 5-10 minutes to see everything....More

This is one of the most famous Cherry Blossom Sites of Japan. Very crowded during Golden Week. Both daytime and night time are offer unique experience. Weather changes quickly and its best to dress in layers and be prepared for cool and hot weather.

Castles to me should be giant, but this one is a little one, though full of historical armours on display and weapons, it was a little short for my interest.

Pro -ORIGINAL donjon (main castle tower). Not a rebuild/reconstruction like most Japanese touristy castles. You can hear the ancient wood creak with every step you take in the castle. -Large keep grounds also used as the main park for the entire city; good for seeing...More

I was there on April 29th a few days before the full bloom but enough of the cherry blossoms were open to make this the most beautiful and memorable place from my visit. I got lucky to see a huge festival going on that day/evening,...More

It was very calming to walk through the Cherry Blossom Park in Hirosaki and to see the Hirosaki Castle. The people in Japan are so polite and I feel I could go there by myself next visit. I had my Mom and my Uncle Seigi...More

I visited in the fall, unfortunately missing the sakura blossoms that Hirosaki castle is famous for, but the grounds around the castle were still beautiful. Also, because it was fall they weren't very many people around, so great picture opportunities. Walking around the castle was...More

I did not see any train lines near the castle and park. I don't recall seeing a train station anywhere near the dock either. I would be concerned that you'd be spending so much time trying to use the train that you'd miss... More

Yes, the renovations are still going on and are expected to last until 2023. The castle is expected to be put back into its original place by fall 2021.
