The reasons I went to this beach was 1) it was featured in Hokusai paintings, 2) I wanted to see Mount Fuji from a beach. It was a clear, sunny day, so I was lucky to have a clear view of Mount Fuji. It wasn't the most beautiful beach (I prefer more pristine/natural beaches), but it was a lovely, peaceful and quiet place that is not over-crowded (most of the people were surfers). Good for leisure strolls and a great escape from the noisy city.

What's not to like about strolling along a beach? Perhaps it is not the most pristine beach on this part of the shoreline but it offers an expansive bay view of the shore and view of the distant storefronts and buildings. There are fishing boats on shore and surfers in the distant. Great area to see the sunset.

As far as beaches go it's pretty average. The sand looks to be mixed with some kind of volcanic ash so is slightly dark in appearance. The only beach that beats this for average ness would be Formby beach in Liverpool and that has the Anthony Gormley bronze statues/body casts but sand with a similar consistency as mud and an abundance of dead jellyfish. Anyway this Kamakura beach is pretty uneventful. There's not much going on there. The local Kouban will probably stare at you and question your intentions for being there as right, they would. Don't get me wrong Kamakura has plenty other things going for it besides this. Just don't make it the main feature of your visit

The beach and the ocean offer a great view from the Hasedera temple, however it is dirty and unclean. At the entrance of the beach there is a notice put up, asking travellers not to enter the sea, because sewage (after treatment) is being dumped there

When strolling around Kamakura, you really should make your way down to the beach. The early morning is one of the best times, with only a few tourists and mainly the fishermen bringing in their catch. You can "frolic" in the waves if you want. The water is relatively clean and warm. Grab a spot on the beach, but watch out for the hawks....they'll swoop down and grab the burger right from your hand. Enjoy!

Near Tokyo with easy access if by train.
It is less crowded than the one near Enoshima, but with excellent view of Enoshima Island. When visiting, do not expect white sand and clear water.

We took a trip from tokyo with JR Yokosuka Line to Kamakura.
Station is 1.3 km from beach.
Very nice walk along main street with smal shops and cafes.
Beach was very good for a walk along the Pacific.
Nice views and very quiet.
Very Nice trip for a few hours.

We spent a few hours at the beach hoping the clouds would lift so we would get a view of Mt Fuji. Unfortunately the clouds didnt lift, however the beach was a great place to spend a few hours.
