Quiet little museum tucked in the outer grounds of Hachimangu that feature mostly Kamakura treasures of all shapes and sizes. Fascinating collection of temple statuary. Well worth seeing out.

We basically stopped in because it was really boiling hot outside and after going around the temple we needed a break from the heat. Heat or no heat this place is utterly amazing and well worth a visit, it houses some of the best cultural...More

A small museum in the Hachiman-gu grounds, focussing on Kamakura period items relocated from local Buddhist temples. About half the exhibits are wooden sculptures, but there’s also paintings and industrial art objects – I was particularly struck by a writing box, with 13-tools including a...More

This little museum has some great sculptures. Unfortunately photos were not allowed, so I can't share them with you. I guess you will just have to see for yourselves.

This well worth visit if you are at the Hachimangu Shrine. The sculpture in particular is a vivid representing of the Kamakura School. Quite exquisite and extraordinary.

The Kamakura period features highly realistic wood carved sculptures that are as expressive and artistic as those done in Europe. Especially memorable are the 12 generals guarding Buddha and attendants. Highly...More

Kamakura Itinerary (Day Trip from Tokyo) (7 Replies)
Okay everyone, first of all, thank you SO MUCH for all your help. I think I've finally gotten my day trip to Kamajura and Enoshima all figured out. Below is my proposed itinerary. The only thing I am missing is the time it will take to do #4, and #6 A and C. Please tell me if you see a mistake, if I am leaving something good out and/or you think I have planned to do too much in this one day. I can "go-go-go," but I would just like your verification that it is feasible. Thanks...More
