In recent years, Tsurutaro Kataoka has been attracting more attention as an artist. Kusatsu Tsurutaro Kataoka Museum of Art can be found if you head towards Sainokawara Park from the Yubatake, a symbol of Kusatsu, along Sainokawara Street, just before the park entrance.

Of course, it is a museum that exhibits his work. It was my first time to take a close look at Kataoka Tsurutaro's work, which mainly consisted of ink paintings and calligraphy. There is also a stylish cafe called "art cafe kusatsu" attached to the museum, which can also be used as a place to take a break.

If you have the discount coupon and have time, then you can think about visit there. I wouldn't go, if I needed to pay the full price of the ticket. And if you are the fan of this actor, it may interest you more. I am not his fan, so it is just OK to me. I would love to go to Kusatsu again. But I don't have the intension to go to this museum again.

Kataoka Tsurutaro was a TV comedian but his talents stretch way beyond that. This museum is one of four that he has had built to show his art work, i.e.. what he has painted not what he collected. Mostly modern style but of traditional themes. The museum is a bit pricy (about ¥1,000 each) but the small collection is very good quality. Also, a lovely coffee bar in the gift shop that looks out on the path in order to people watch.
