Next to the hotel is a mall with lots of souvenir shops and restaurants. I wandered around, thinking I'd have dinner somewhere there. However, many of the shops close quite early on weekdays, so I decided to look for one in Karato Shopping Street. In the end, I found a delicious whale restaurant (Shimonoseki Kujiraya Nisshinmaru) that hasn't been featured on this site yet, but I was very satisfied. I bought some souvenirs and returned to the hotel.

This building houses many restaurants, mainly those of local specialities. Since this area is very touristic, every restaurant is crowded. As I was on Saturday, there were too many people, and I gave up eating in this place.

There is a small shopping & eatery building where I could find the table in front of the sea. I could sit and look around the nature, people, kids, shops, etc. This is located to the way to Karato fish market. Good to take lunch or dinner too. Restuarnts have nice view.

The owner of a restaurant named "Ichi...ko" was urinating in the sea in front of his restaurant. It was a shocking sight, even though there was a toilet behind the restaurant. I've never seen such a common sense person in a restaurant that serves food these days!!

We arrived in this area to take a ferry boat ride to an island Mojico. We had the blowfish in a restaurant with Japanese name, the blowfish is sliced very thin an is eaten with ponsu sauce. Blowfish cook needs training to take out the poison, thus is very costly. It was so yummy, the fried blowfish was also good. It was also cooked with a sauce that makes this dish memorable. We also shopped in thestore along the wharf. All in all worth going.

What a beautiful way to spend a Saturday afternoon. The Japanese know how to keep their gardens that's for sure. The wharf runs about 2 km and its wooden with a beautiful view of the Ferris wheel and the magnificent bridge. If your I Shimonoseki you must come here at least once.

There was a sweet shop for soft ice cream and a cafeteria where you could eat pufferfish set meals.
I enjoyed gelato and pufferfish grilled like takoyaki.
