We were only here for a very short time. It was a lovely little shrine with a great view. There was many locals there and it was very easy to get to. Be careful as there are many steps.

After being told the story of this shrine suddenly this place had more meaning, especially since I visited it with my 5yo son. The shrine isn't big compared to some we've in visited in Japan but the gate is impressive and the location over looking the strait is amazing. If you're in Shimonoseki I would recommend you pay this place... More

As my title suggests this is a great little shrine that's well worth a visit if you are in shimonoseki. However I wouldn't recommend going there just to see this. The gate is amazing but the rest of it is very small with a smoking area and vending machines.

The unique and appealing entranceway to this shrine is a fitting memorial to the young boy whom it was built for. The rear temple is surrounded by reflecting pools - a little hard to see - best viewed from the side. The views from the terrace overlooking the Straits are amazing. Combine a visit to this shrine with a walk... More

One of the most impressive Shinto shrines I visited in Japan - and one of the best-located. Amazing dragons guarding the incense burners!

This shrine is a good view, but what steals the show is its gate. And when I went, a special ceremony was being held. Something to do with 2013 being an unlucky year. It is conveniently located on Shimonoseki's main drive--and its gate makes it hard to miss. Not to mention that this is one of Japan's 1st ranked imperial... More
