Duel of Musashi
Dec 2019 • Solo
For Japanese people, the duel of Miyamoto Musashi with Sasaki Kojiro is a well known story. It took place in this small island. From Karato terminal it is easily accessible by boat. On the island, there is actually nothing special except the monument of their duel. So, I recommend you to check the schedule of the return boat. In my opinion, 30 minutes are enough to visit. However, if you have enough time, this excursion should be interesting.

Please visit if you have time to kill
Jan 2019 • Solo
You can kill your time going there and can take the best picture of Kanmon Bridge from there but US$7 round ferry boat fee is rather expensive. All the Japanese know the story of Musashi and Kojiro's battle held in this tiny island but it is nothing for foreigners.

A must when in Shimonoseki
May 2017 • Couples
The legendary battle of the two samurai's is immortalized here on the small island. The statue of the two fighting is on a small hill area of the island.

Away from the mainland, the small island is a brief retreat to get away from the city environment. We walked the grounds of the island and then caught the ferry back all within an hour.

Musashi Miyamoto
Apr 2017 • Friends
If you are a fan of Musashi Miyamoto, you must visit this small island. It was a statue of the famous fight between Musashi and Kojiro Sasaki. Of course, Musashi won to live a long life. They have boats going to and from every 40 minutes or so. We lucked out and had the island to ourselves. It was a windy and rainy day. We loved it.

Pilgrimage to Ganryu-jima
Aug 2016 • Solo
If you're a fan of Miyamoto Musashi this is a must.

Not particularly easy to get to or well publicised but that makes to experience all the better.

Musashi vs Kojiro
Jul 2016 • Solo
This place is for Japanese Sumurai lovers. Legendary Musashi beat anther samurai legend Kojiro on this little island. This story is very popular in Japan. It takes only 10min by a ferry from both Mijiko and Shimonosei. It is an interesting place for Samurai lovers but it might be a boring small island with little facilities for non lovers.

Great place with historical significance
Oct 2014 • Business
It's a small island where you go by taking a ferry. It has huge historical significance, specially for those interested in swordsmanship. Two of the greatest swordsmen of Japan, Musashi Miyamoto & Kojiro Sasaki fought their final duel which Musashi won by killing Sasaki with a single strike. The island has a statue of their final duel, a boat (which is believed to be used by Musashi Miyamoto to come to the island) and also an informative exhibition about the duel.
