This is a wonderful beach with nice park area. This beach has tide pools at low tide and a ranger to give info. There are nice bathrooms at the parking lot. This area is accessible by wheelchair somewhat but not down to the actual sand beach. There are picnic tables and a shelter to rent for events. There is a little dock on one side. It has a totem pole with a story about it. Very beautiful park/beach and I would recommend you take kids to see the tide pool. Please be respectful of the rules at the tide pool to protect the creatures. We saw a great blue heron fairly close and of course little bitty crabs and fish, starfish and urchins. Look up tide tables so you can go at low tide if you plan to do the tide pools with kids. If you don't go at low tide, they will be covered in water. We picnicked on the beach this year for Mother's Day.

Really enjoyed visiting Rosario Beach. Hiked from Rosario Beach to Bowman Bay to lighthouse point and Lottie point. Has awesome views and can't wait to go back to use my kayak on the bay. The water is a gorgeous greenish-blue. Some great vistas for photography. Also get a great view of the deception pass bridge from below from lighthouse point and lottie point. An easy hike to make with about 500 feet of elevation gain. But it's not all at once so it doesn't feel like you're constantly climbing. Easy for all age groups. You will need your discover pass to visit which is $35 for a year or $10 for a day.

I grew up in the Puget Sound area and spent my childhood roaming the San Juan Islands with my family. We spent much time traveling through the Deception Pass area to the San Juan Islands. Rosario Beach is one of those places that I enjoy now that I'm not able to cruise in a boat to the more isolated islands. You can explore tide pools, collect the smooth ocean rocks and weathered driftwood, or just listen to the sounds of the waterfront. The beach is part of The Washington State Park system. It is primarily made up of stones--very little sand. There's a totem pole, a tidepool hike, and calm water for scuba, kayaking, and canoeing.

A visit in January? Oh yes, it's beautiful no matter when you go. No crowds this time of year, and very quiet area (except for the military jets zooming overhead). Later on, in the spring, the hills will be alive with wildflowers! Love the trees shaped by the wind, the nice shelter for parties and events, good restroom facilities. Make sure you visit the "Maiden of Deception Pass" and read the story boards. The beaches are wonderful, and the views from further up the hill are amazing. Discover Pass must be displayed in your vehicle.

We were driving from Vancouver BC to Silverdale WA and stopped at Rosario Beach. It was drizzling out but not raining hard. It was lovely to get out and take in the beach, the view and fresh air and the sounds of the surf on the pebbles. If it had been nicer we would have eaten lunch here. It was worth the stop. I can see on a beautiful summer day it may be crowded, but no matter the weather I'd stop. Next time we will explore of Deception Pass Park area.

Heading south and had heard that the area had some great views, beaches. Impluse lead to stopping at Rosario Beach. WOW, what a great find! Tide pools, views, beautiful picnic spots, rest rooms, walking- this place has it all. We were very lucky to find our way there on a sunny day. They are working hard to protect the tide pools and have some rules about where you can walk, but truly they want you to enjoy them. Two volunteer naturalists were on hand to answer questions and share information. Great experience. $10 day use fee.

I love this beach! Especially nice when there are not lots and lots of people around. If your timing is right you may find one of the many rocks hidden by Whidbey Island Rock Painters.

On a sunny day this beach & trails are spectacular! Stunning blues, cliff face rocks, with moderately easy trails even with younger kids. Easy parking with restrooms available & great picnic options to enjoy time by the water.

Every time we visit Rosario we always find beauty regardless of the time of year, and regardless of the time of day.

There are meadows, picnic tables, historically interesting shelters, restrooms, scenic views on all sides of rocky shores, pebble beaches, trees, and in season, beautiful wildflowers. There are tide pools at low tide with a "guided" trail. There is the cultural interest of the Maiden of Deception Pass sculpture, and a series plaques with the legend.

A short walk brings you to a headland with even more spectacular views of sea, islands, beach, and more. The sea cliffs are quite impressive. It is for good reason that on occasion there are weddings conducted up on the headland.

Be sure to visit this part of the wonderful Deception Pass State Park!

We visited over President's Day weekend...during a wind/snow storm! The waves crashing on the beach were impressive. Even more so, the beaches, trails and day areas were SUPER CLEAN! We ran into a large group of photographers who clearly were there for storm action. We were not able to really enjoy the beach due to the high tide and wicked waves. But, we loved the views and plan to return.
