We made a critical error and we took the scenic loop ..,, we missed the sign that was designed to keep motor homes out. Especially a 35 foot long 12 feet high one. We received many “excited” looks and jesters.

We actually made it with one 5 point turn and one 10 point turn. Multiple side scratches and roof scratches, several branches removed from trees and carried along.

Never do this!

Washington City Park has a great little campground. There is a great road loop to walk along ( closed to traffic until 10:00 AM) beautiful sights along the way. One Morning we saw a family of River otters eating a huge Crab, another morning we watched a seagull eating a small octopus!

There is a boat launch and small beach and grass area for a day of fun.
The campground is very shaded by large trees and the temps (64-74 degrees) are great in the summertime.

Lots of fun things to do near by- drive to Deception Pass for some beautiful views

We loved this park! The scenic route loop was easy to access and was paved! Some wonderful views and beautiful wildflowers. There were tons of small trails jetting off the main loop that we explored. We spent a lot of time at the park and felt a bit lost at times on the side trails. A map would have been very helpful! Would definitely return and highly recommend!

The loop was closed due to high winds but God blessed us with a beautiful day so we got out and walked. The little trails off the main road are a must. Just absolutely gorgeous, not just the views but the landscape itself. I could have spent my whole weekend there.

Visiting this park was a fabulous experience. The walk around the loop afforded some of the most beautiful views I've seen anywhere in Washington state. This was well worth a visit. We went on a rather cloudy day in winter, but it was still nice. We are looking forward to going back on a nice sunny day in the summer.

Perfect place to camp if you want to take a whale watching trip. 5 minutes to the harbor. The camping spots are large and wooded. There are great hiking and short mountain biking trails right from the camp ground. Reasonably priced and very well taken care of. Close to everything. We will definitely visit again.

Beautiful park and the location can't be beat. We headed there after a five hour whale watching cruise and just enjoyed the sight. Deer walking by, great playground for children, picnic tables, and the beach!

We camp here in the RV when visiting local family at Christmas. December is a wonderful time to visit, often have the park almost to ourselves. Lots of hiking trails and walking/driving the Loop at least once is a must. The views are stunning. During the holiday season people hang ornaments on the trees along the loop, very festive!

My family has been going there for generations. We have camped in RV's, tents, and spent days there picnicking for many reunions or special evens in all kinds of pacific northwest weather. There is a boat launch, play area for kids, and there are wild bunnies, and island deer that roam around. You can watch the Washington State Ferries and many boats travel the channels on their way to the San Juan Islands and beyond - always fun. There are sea birds, and wonderful sunsets there, hence the name of the beach park! The loop drive is hairy because of it's winding and upward path, and it is one way, so be on the lookout for walkers (who tire easily and need a break, it's steep in places!) and some take bikes up there but I don't know h-o-w! I would NOT recommend an RV or trailer on that loop drive, better to leave that in your camp lot and take another vehicle...they're probably not even allowed! The loop drive is a true loop and you will wind back up at camp anyway and can roast those mallows and dogs afterwards...fabulous. The air is great there, sea and salt air combined with a berry and woodsy pine scent...fabulous! Even if you just pick up a picnic from Anacortes and find a pull in spot, and get out your blanket, make sure you check it out...it's worth it!

Everything others have said regarding the beauty of this campground/park is true - it is truly beautiful. Other than the bathroom in the upper campground, which in early August was - and I'm being kind - truly ugly. The floor was filthy and neither of the showers worked: on the one shower that had tape over the coin slot, the rust was showing through the tape. Clearly that shower hadn't worked in a v-e-r-y l-o-n-g time.

The toilet stalls had paper all over the floor and the smell was abominable. We were there for two nights and were disgusted. And I made the mistake of drinking water from the sink tap and got GIARDIA exactly a week later.

Bottom line: great for as visit, but don't camp there unless you have a trailer with bathroom facilities
