We visited the memorial at 8 pm in December and saw many aspects of the memorial which I believe daytime visitors may miss. The three spirals strike a ghostly spike into the sky, illuminated in a dramatic fashion. The color guard statues give a ghostly yet awesome formality to the overall setting. Looking at the 360 degree horizon most of... More

On my last trip to Wasington D.C we stayed at the Sheraton Pentagon City Hotel. In between our hotel and the memorials we discovered a gem, called the Air Force Museum. Due to it's location, it can easily be overlooked. I was very happy I made the visit. Fortunately, there was a security guard on site shortly after we arrived.... More

This is an interesting place to visit especially if you have served or know someone who has served in the Air Force. It is a nice memorial. If you are visiting Arlington National Cemetery it is very near and worth a visit. It also has excellent views and photo opportunities of the cemetery, the Washington Memorial and the Pentagon.

I sadly feel like this is probably overlooked. We have many Air Force vets in my family, and my brother was determined we would make it here by any means. It took some wandering after jumping off the Pentagon metro but worth the trek. It never ceases to amaze me how people are able to capture the spirit and 1000+... More

The Air Force Memorial occupies high ground to the west of the Pentagon. The heart of the memorial--three stainless steel arches, calling to mind the flour-de-lis seen in air shows, is captivating, and the views of DC from there are very good. Bring binoculars to help pick out sites in DC.

It's hard to find a great view like this that is publicly accessible. Plus, standing under the monument itself is a moving experience. I used to work in the building adjacent to this monument before that building was torn down. I often came to this hill to watch the July 4th fireworks. Now, the entire hill is available to all-comers.... More

This was our first visit as part of a night tour of D.C. memorials and monuments. Would love to return for one of the many USAF Band Concerts that are given here each year. This memorial to the service of the personnel of the United States Air Force and its predecessors is located near the Pentagon and Arlington National Cemetery... More

Great high spot to see allot of the DC landscape. Very clean and well maintained. Having been to the other armed forces memorials and being a Navy veteran, I am at a loss on the contrail stainless sculpture that is the focal point of this memorial. The three spikes on display don't have the dramatic impact that most of the... More

This is lovely monument located on a hillside near the Pentagon. The view is one of the best in the city. In the Summer there are usually free concerts on Friday evenings. Yes, it's not on the beaten path, but worth the effort to visit. Note the multi-racial bronze statue of the color guard which includes women. This statue is... More
