This has always been one of Alexandria's best attractions. We had not been there for about a year. This visit disappointed us. There has been a huge turnover in the artists, many of whom have been there for over 20 years or more. The location is wonderful --it is very close to the Potomac River. There are still good artists here but the turnover really shook us. We have heard that the City has increased the costs of renting substantially. We do not have the specifics.

Great place to give your soul some nourishment of some great art and if you are willing to open up your wallet there is plenty to buy. There is a shop where you can buy prints, just in case you will find the original piece of art a bit too pricey. Three stories of diverse talent displaying their art work. Most of the stalls open during our Saturday visit.

There are three floors of various studios where artists create various works in varied media. The quality of the art, the location on the water, and the opportunity to talk with the artists is so special. I loved this place and cannot wait to return whenever we are in the area. You really need to visit this place, there is no where else in the country quite like this place.

Been here a couple times and I always see a couple really interesting things.
If you’re visiting from out of town you should definitely check it out. You can also buy pretty much anything they have on the spot. The full range of art and metalwork and pottery styles are represented as well as some archaeological and historical areas. I would rather drink my morning coffee at home from one of these mugs then any stupid mass produced I♥️DC souvenir.
How about you? You’re special aren’t you? Don’t settle for less than quality, I say!

The Torpedo Factory offers the chance to see artists creating art. Artists seem to keep their own schedules, but their hours are generally posted on the doors of their rooms. The pieces range from quite affordable to quite expensive, and just about every type of art imaginable is represented -- ceramics, oil painting, collage, metal work, jewelry, etc.; there's pretty much something for everyone, and probably even something for people who don't think they like art.

In scientist factory Art Center is situated many little artists and shops and separate stalls and Door. There’s a second floor and third floor as well.

Which one of these has a little shop against the hallways here. Even the stairwells have art integrated into the side rails and between the stairs.

You’re a Missile torpedoes along the hallways in the different sections and floods of this art center.

It’s also dog friendly indoors.

There’s even a scale, in case you wanna know how much you gained during your vacation.

Definitely a center to spend a couple of hours browsing all of the shops inside.

We spent over three hours exploring the Torpedo Factory Art Center. We chatted with artists, marveled at the diversity of art, and were amazed at the quality of the art. I know of nothing quite like this place with studios, galleries, and classes combined. It is surely a treasure.

Not sure if this is a Covid issue or not, but a very cool concept where there are 3 floors of shops where artists show off all types of arts and crafts. However, there were not a lot of shops open so not much to see. There were some really cool stores there but minimal (make sure to go see the guy who does metal art on the first floor-super cool)!

For many years the Torpedo Factor, was the top rated attraction in Olde Town Alexandria. Today I was shocked to see the huge turnover in artists in just the last year. It did not look like the same place as far as art quality . One artist we talked to said that the turnover has been accelerating. In the guide books covering Alexandria, the Torpedo Factory has been listed as a must see. Based on what I saw today, I think future guide books won't even mention the Torpedo Factory.

I love when they take an old space like a factory they create a space for art or small business. That is what this old building that use to be a torpedo Factory has done.

The Torpedo museum was once just that a factory where torpedo was made and after the war it was decommissioned. The building sat empty a while till the city created this amazing space for artist.

Artist are fantastic! Paint, sculpture, photography, jewelry just about all art imaginable. We did go on a Sunday half the artist were not open. You can still walk through look in the windows what they are creating!
