Best tour we have taken in three years. Our family of four likes taking historic walking tours. This one was a hit. Our guide was Audrey who did a fantastic job of blending her obviously genuine personal interest in history, with enthusiastic story telling. The tour started right on time and traveled a nice concise route. I really liked that on Audrey's tour, we didn't stop at, or talk about any of the really big sites in Old Town Alexandria. The stories added historical perspective to our visit in Alexandria, but did not continue to drone about the same spots in town that all other visitor resources focus upon. In other words, I walked away feeling like I had really learned something, and had been truly entertained. The stories were not terribly scary, and the tour is done just before sunset, so I can safely recommend this tour for all ages.

This was was our first time ever to Alexandria & want to start by saying how profesional and attentive our hosts were. We were immediately attended to and given directions to the restroom and local spots for discounts for being part of the tour. Our tour guide Audrey was absolutely a wealth of information on the history of Alexandria & the ghostly history of some of the places we visited. I was impressed with her family background being that she was from the area. My kids were loving the ghost stories and were absolutely waiting for one to pop out on them especially when we got into the cemetery. I highly recommend this tour for anyone who ever stops in to the DC area or Alexandria from out of town or any resident who hasn't been on this tour!

Loved the ghost tour. We covered a lot in just an hour. Our guide gave an excellent performance and created spine-tingling moments despite planes overhead and a few disruptive children in the group. We’re local and we make a point of doing a ghost tour every October. This is our favorite so far!

We are natives of Alexandria so we are familiar with the city and its history. Having done the North tour quite a few years ago, we finally decided to do the South Tour on Halloween night.

First of all, our guide was very personable and talented and she did her best at making the most of the content she was given. However, the stories on the South Tour left us wanting. The stories weren't terribly exciting, save but one. Most of our crowd felt the same way - everyone was very quiet during the entire 1+ hour.

Given the rich history of the city and the many famous people and families who lived there, one would expect some of their tales to be told. The tour ends in a sad little cemetery that is neither spooky nor significant.

I've taken ghost tours in the Washington DC area, Charleston, Seattle, and San Diego. I enjoy ghost tours not because of the supernatural, but because they cover an area's unique history, quirks, and culture. I went on "Alexandria's Original Ghost & Graveyard Tour" with Margot on December 27. Margot is a warm, friendly, and enthusiastic tour guide who enjoys getting into character, and I totally recommend taking her tour. That said, I wish the tour included a deeper dive into Alexandria's unique history. I don't recall if the tour was assigned to was the north route or the south route, but like other reviewers, I wish there was a combination tour - I would gladly pay more for the full tour because I hate that I missed out on half of this tour company's tour. I do appreciate the very reasonable price of this tour through.

I took my in-town family to go and check out the ghost tour. It was a very engaging and immersive experience. Holly was our guide, and she did a great job of speaking loudly and clearly so that everyone could hear and showed concern for traffic safety.

Our tour guide was Grave and not only was she in character dressed up an old painting. We were a group of about 25 from a local animal hospital along with some of our family and she kept us engaged with the way she told the stories and historical facts that led to them. We all had a great time!

This was the best thing we did on our trip to Washington, DC. We went on Kevin's tour on an incredibly cold night, but he kept us entertained throughout with a good balance of puns, scary stories, and interesting history. The only thing I would change is maybe selecting a day with better weather because there wasn't really any place to shelter from the wind and the cold, but I won't hold that against him.

This also is a locally owned company, and it shows. The stories we heard felt very authentic and less scripted than many of the other ghost tours we've been on before. It felt like we were hearing real folklore that was part of the culture and history of the city, not just stories you can just read online or in a book. All of that to say, if you are going to take a ghost tour in Alexandria, then I highly recommend you take this one!

Strongest possible recommendation for Alexandria Colonial Tours ghost tour with extraordinary guide Jimmy. The charm of Old Town on one of the first good crispy Fall evenings can’t be overstated, but Jimmy’s perfect control of his craft drew us into a spooky pocket dimension. I got chills in the first five minutes. Jimmy makes it a whole multimedia experience too! Jimmy is also an expert historian. His love of learning all about the rich past in the area comes out in his elaborately ornamented tales. Plus this dude knows how to get your skin crawling. My kid was trying to wear me as a security blankie by the end, and I wasn’t trying too hard to get away from him bc I was pretty spooked out too. Jimmy was so kind and generous with all the guests, building a fun rapport with other less petrified kids throughout the tour, they were giving him high fives in the middle of his talk. The adults on dates were talking about how scared they were while we were walking from spooky spot to spot. The ending in the dark grave yard was totally creepy too. And then he let us take turns holding the lantern! What a great sport. You guys should not miss this one. Once in a lifetime entertainment for real, but we will be back soon to do the North route with Jimmy to hear about the headless ghost over there!

Our guide Kevin was the best! He took us on their North tour and it was the right amount of scary and funny without being over the top or cheesy. It was a perfect way to end a Friday date night so I highly recommend this to couples or friend groups looking for something fun to do around Alexandria in the evening, Awesome job, Kevin!
