The Historical Society of Washington County is the place to begin your genealogy research. If your ancestors came through Southwest Virginia, we probably have some information on them in our digital data base of over 170,000 images and records.

We spent two days researching at the new building. Many wonderful resources available, and I’m sure more will be in place once everything is moved. The volunteers are awesome and are so knowledgeable about the area and family lines.

The Historical Society located in the old train depot is a must visit if you are in Abingdon. The people are so friendly and the building with all it's contents are a great way to get your historical facts about the area.
