When I first arrived in Alta I did not realize that this as a skier only area. For a ski enthusiast, like myself, it was absolute paradise. Alta offers a wide variety of ski options - off piste trails, challenging black runs and easier blue...More

We have been going here for last 5 years now. This place has best snow, charming atmosphere, great slops, lots of backcountry, black and blue runs. Also has decent runs for beginners as well. Ski school is excellent, both our kids learned ski at Alta...More

This is a ski only resort which is desirable. The terrain is challenging and well marked. Clubhouse is a bit dated and the food and beer was the most expensive on the trip.

The terrain at Alta is fantastic and well-serviced by reasonably quick lifts. Alta is in a fairly unique position where it catches and holds storms in its bowl. The end result is massive amounts of snow averaging over 500" every year! But, this also means...More

If you want the vive and feel of what it felt like to Ski 30 years ago, Alta is for you. Unlike many of the ski resorts that have merged and become mega resorts with $$$$ lift tickets, Alta has stuck to its roots. Here...More

Came here for two days in January and had a fantastic time. The lift lines were way shorter than you would get at park city or deer valley. Lift passes were a little cheaper too. The runs were fun and there were plenty of groomers...More

Alta has lots of fun and challenging terrain, with hidden nooks and powder caches. Because it is ski-only, the snow surface stays in good shape longer, not as scraped off as can happen with snowboards.

Skied Alta, as well as dozens of other great mountains, many times. Alta is my pick for great terrain and the best, most consistent snow anywhere in-bounds on the continent.

Alta is an awesome ski resort: incredible skiing, great people. My one complaint is the lack of foot rests on the lifts. I have a bad left knee and it just can't tolerate the weight of my skis and boots after a couple of hours....More

How is the drive to Alta from Cottonwood Heights compared to the drive to Solitude? Is it similar as far as time and difficulty? Thank you.

It's about the same. Download the UDOT app (Utah Dept of Transportation) and sign up for the text alerts. The app will notify you of closures and when you are required to have 4WD/chains. You have to figure that during... More

I was surprised to see that the Alf Engen ski school doesn't take reservations. We have 3 young kids who don't know how to ski. So booking a trip to Alta only to not get them into ski school would be a huge problem. We are going January 1. 2017 for a few days. Anyone have an opinion on likelihood we would not be able to get into the ski school?

Hello- we are long time beginner/lower intermediate skiers who like long slow scenic runs down- is this place for us? We want to ski there on 2-3 January 2016. Does this place rent skis and boots? Thank you:-)

Alta seems to be a little more advanced, I would hesitate to take my family there that doesn't do steep and fast. Same with Snowbitd.
