Has a speakeasy vibe being its hidden behind a bookcase in a hostel. Dimly lit and cool decor. Bartenders made some the better craft cocktails we had while in Austin. Gave us a bunch of to-do’s and to don’ts. Definitely put this on your list while in Austin.

Wow - this place had a great place in my heart until today.

My girlfriend fell trying to get a glass of water, which was inexplicably on a stairway. She didn't see it and took a tumble. Our fault, no big deal, so I went to the bar to get a glass of water.

I stood in line patiently for 10 minutes. The drinks here take a long time to make, I get that. Then I was at the bar and noticed the barback wasn't busy and I tried to get his attention - obviously anyone can get me a glass of water.

What was the response? The bar tender told me not to talk to him. Then he says "do you want his number or something? Hey what's your number this guy wants your number?" He also added some homophobic slurs that I won't repeat. What???? That's the most insane response ever.

Tossing aside how homophobic that is, how is that the response there? That's the most absurd thing anyone has ever said to me. I told them they're out of water and that's what I was asking for.

Begrudgingly the bar back gets me a glass of iceless water. Not the hardest thing in the world, but he decided I needed to be slurred in the process.

The guy who decided to say I needed to get someone's number instead of a glass of water was wearing a red hat, grey shirt, beard, and it said damn on it. I took a picture but he is on the right of the main picture of this review. I didn't get a name.

Stay away especially if you're part of the lgbtq community.

Fun entry through “secret” bookcase door. Great music and good drinks. Off a side street from main bar area.

When you walk in and suddenly realize the door to the bar is through a sliding bookcase, you know you're in for a good time! Wonderful craft cocktails, great staff, and fun atmosphere!

I found myself solo in Austin for the night and wanted a clean friendly place to stay that was easy to get to and from the airport. You can't beat the location. It is only two blocks to the bus line and across the street from the Driskill Hotel. A room at the Driskill was going for almost $400 a night.
I haven't stayed in a hostel for years. This one was quite unique. I stayed in the women's dorm. There were 4 sets of bunk beds and a set of lockers. I got in around 5 p.m. but all of the beds except the upper bunk were taken.
The bed was comfortable. The location was fantastic, and the breakfast was awesome.
Everyone was friendly. I had the opportunity to talk to many of the guests both in the evening and at breakfast. It was easy to find someone to walk down and see the bats at sunset, or go downstairs to the lounge for a drink . They also serve a light bar menu for a quick dinner. You have to go through the bookcase door to get to the lounge.
I walked around 6th street after dinner but did not go into many bars. I started to walk up to seventh street but there were lots of homeless people in the area so I returned to the well traveled 6th street area.
If you are traveling alone and want something safe, cheap, and in a great location I would recommend this hostel.

This was recommended by a friend, and did not disappoint. The lounge is behind a set of bookcases in the lobby of a hostel. Once the bookcase is slid aside, you step into a homey, comfy music enclave and instantly feel more hip just being there :) If you are looking for a local-feeling hang, I would highly recommend, and can't wait to go back.

My hubby always finds these cool places to go to that are out of the ordinary and not your average chain bar or restaurant. This lounge did not disappoint! From the cool entry to the quaint bar and small stage with mini dance floor, this one to put on your to-do list. We sat at the bar and our wonderful mixologist Brandon with the handlebar mustache and handlebar mustache tattoo on his finger was awesome! He made us some traditional drinks as well as some gin drinks we never would have tried before. We met fun people coming and going to this hopping little place and heard a great little band. It was walking distance from the Omni which is where we were staying as well as walking distance to 6th street. I highly recommend coming here to see what it is all about. I can't comment on the hostel side of the building but the lounge is definitely one to see!

We were there in the early evening so there was no live music, but the bartenders were entertaining and the drinks were great.

Large selection of specialty cocktails.

Didn't know what to expect when I walked into a Hostel to get a drink, but sliding the bookcase open revealed an amazing little speakeasy and one of the best kept secrets in mixology. Just tell them what your preferred spirit is and let them do the rest. Perfect place on a hot summer visit and to kill time before dinner. Always THE place to go when in Austin.

Just because it seems fun to go to a "hidden" bar, we checked out the Firehouse Lounge. It was cool to go thru the bookcase to get inside. It was fairly small & dark (to keep with the "hidden" theme). The "old fashioned" drinks were good enough. No real eats. Very laid back vibe. Stayed for a drink and then went on our way.
