Funky, fun and decent BBQ

OK, I should be upfront and let you know that I am from NC, so it is going to be hard to impress me with BBQ. My son had the chopped sandwich and my daughter and I had the ribs... read more

OK, I should be upfront and let you know that I am from NC, so it is going to be hard to impress me with BBQ. My son had the chopped sandwich and my daughter and I had the ribs. All were good, but I will stick to NC for chopped and Memphis for ribs. The bar was quirky and... More

This place is absolutely unbelievable. The decor is funky, cool, weird, rustic, fun and fabulous. The "Man in Black" is truly the quest of honour here. Great memorabilia of Johnny Cash--pics, posters, imagines, lyrics. Magnificent place if you are a Johnny Cash fan. Have a drink "named Sue"

I was in Austin recently for a business trip, and I Googled "BBQ Restaurants in Austin" and the closest one to my location was the Mean-Eyes Cat Bar. I was skeptical about entering, because of it's rustic/folk/biker hang out exterior, but in I went anyway. The interior is decorated with old-timey furniture, and it reminded me of a smaller version... More

Great Drinks (loved the Willy Nilly) - most of the bartenders were awesome and friendly. The folks at Stubbs were great too and the food most excellent. One bartendress seemed to be unamused by life in general and needs to learn not to roll her eyes at her customers. All in All - I will be back to the MEC.... More

Was a fair walk from where we stayed, but worth it for the experience. Great timber structure/bar with masses of signage, memoribilia everywhere. In what looked like a Johnny Cash tribute room we were able to eat food from the adjoining bbq place while drinking one of the many beers on offer (I had a Guns & Oils Maverick Lager).... More

Came here with my 21 year old son. We live here in Austin and have driven by this place a thousand times on my way to work. For those of you like me. Just stop and come in preferably on a day when you can sit out on the deck. It is great fun.

We really enjoyed this bar with good craft beer choices, Johnny Cash stuff and Stubs BBQ attached. Even when busy the bartenders were great with service and conversation. This is a cool Texas dive bar

Rustic Country bar with tons of Johnny Cash memorabilia. Close to same atmosphere as Dixie Chicken....but in Austin! Craft beers on tap and full bar. Nice shade tree and patio. Good for day drinking!

Very charming dive bar, good service, GREAT signature drinks and lots of beers on tap. Outdoor seating, lots of outdoor seating on a very chill patio. The theme of this place is Johnny Cash and it is very cool. Great t-shirts too!
