We are in the business of improvisational theatre. We make up all our comedy, plays, and sketches on the spot (unless otherwise noted). Short form, long form, Chicago-Style, NY-Style, CA-Style, Austin-Style - we do it all (especially Austin-Style, it's our specialty). We host and produce improv shows Thursday through Sunday. For some of the shows, we invite independent groups to perform (everything you see on Thursday night, for instance) and some of the shows we personally produce (everything you see on Saturday night, for instance). In addition, the Hideout is downtown Austin's oldest independent coffee house. We are open morning to night, weekdays and weekends and serve beer, wine, fresh sandwiches, pastries, ice cream, as well as an assortment of beverages and coffee drinks. We proudly feature vegan ice cream from our friends at Sweet Ritual and our specialty craft cocktails were designed by Laura Nixon of Bad Dog Barcraft. You can bring food and drink from the coffee house up into the theatre to enjoy during a performance!

We were spending the weekend in Austin and looking for something to do with our two teen boys (who happen to have advanced senses of humor). I was happy to find this place, because it didn’t have a minimum age (although the nighttime shows are...More

This is our #1 favorite spot for entertainment (and coffee!) in all of Austin. They have 11 completely different improv shows every week, and their lengthier shows are professional top-notch productions that rival the very best scripted stage shows that you have ever seen... yet...More

We went to Big Bash on a Friday night. We didn’t know what to expect. The place was full and half of the people have been there before which is a good sign. We did not enjoy the first 15-20min. Even got a little worried...More

Let me preface this by saying I'm used to New York City improv (UCB mostly). I wasn't expecting this to be anything near UCB levels, but wanted to check out the Austin improv scene regardless because I heard it was solid. I saw Maestro, which...More
