- Natasha C80 contributionsGreat street of shops - and pizza!Shopped a few shops on this road and it was a lot of fun! Mufrais with the hats was our main goal and that was wonderful - there are a lot of trendy hat bars, but my goal was a quality rustic hat. Andrea helped make it on the spot as we tried a few things out. From fit to taking photos she was fantastic! Topped it off with the pizza (I forget the name but it is a walk up window and says MORE) SO GOOD!Visited March 2023Written March 23, 2023
- LoveTravel184700034 contributionsFun shopping experienceGreat unique local shops mixed in with well known boutiques. I love the variety of stores available from the cowboy boot shop, Mi Casa store, to men’s and women’s clothing. Several types of restaurants to choose from- diners, upscale, grab and go spots. Everyone can enjoy a coffee on So Co at Jo’s or couple ice cream places. We popped into the Continental Club at 6:30p to listen to a local band. Iconic place. Love the storefront and restaurant neon signs all along the street. Definitely a must see while in Austin!Visited June 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten June 9, 2023
- cypjgSpring Branch, Texas218 contributionsWalk and Shop TreatGreat way to spend some free time trying out new things in Austin. We walked the area for an hour or so after getting lucky finding street parking. My daughter wanted to shop so we visited several locally owned shops first along with street vendors then we ventured into the big name brand spots: Lululemon and Nike. Pretty neat that they offer both. It was summer in full effect so we also got some ice cream from Amy’s which was very good and a much needed cool off from the 100 degree temps.Visited July 2023Traveled with familyWritten July 15, 2023

- digitalrocCalgary, Canada1,816 contributionsLand of restaurants and boutiquesI intentionally wanted to stay in the SoCo District, so I booked my Airbnb as close to the area as possible, and ended up in the nearby neighborhood of Galindo. The Galindo area borders west of South 1st Street and south of West Oltorf Street, which was a nice area to stay. I found that Travis Heights and Bouldin Creek are the neighborhoods that have the best of the SoCo District, with all the great diners in the area, along with many unique shops and of course, lots of cool murals. Be sure you visit the “Greetings from Austin” mural that is located on South 1st Street and West Annie Street, in the neighborhood of Bouldin Creek.Visited October 2023Traveled soloWritten November 22, 2023

This area is listed as a 24-hour shopping center. We left a concert at the Scoot Inn at 11: 15 p.m. and headed over to Soco shopping area. The area was then closing by midnight. The block and surrounding area looked pretty dark and dingy. They should change their advertising if they're not open 24 hours it was a waste of time and gas to drive by there.

During the day, SoCo is rather tourist-infested and is trying too hard to be "cool." But after hours, it is much more authentic, with a different vibe altogether. Perhaps as this area matures, it can determine what it wants to be, beyond the home of the Continental and C-Boys, which are terrific

This district has lots of art and food options. The shops seem to cater largely to tourists, but in a way that's fun and authentic feeling. If you're looking for something to help you "Keep Austin Weird", this is the place.

love SoCo! Great food, music, and shopping. What more do you need? As an Austinite, this is where I love to hangout. Parking may be a bit tricky depending on what time you go but you can always Uber. A tourist must-do!

Busy, vibrant area with loads of food, bars and shopping. However it is a bit crazy. Scooters seem to try to run into you. People cross the streets without looking.
I’d give it a five am for a vibrant area but too much traffic. If Austin would restrict across a few streets this would be great.

Austin is still weird on South Congress but perhaps a little bit less than ten years ago - the strip has become a mainstream tourist destination. Still very much worthwhile for a stroll and to visit some less than usual specialty shops. Parking is free on the streetside but boy, it is hard to find a spot. Fortunately there is paid parking in a garage behind the famed Hopdoddy burger shop.

How far is it from the University of Texas. Are there buses to go to UT?

Google UT buses to SoCo and you will see what is available. It will depend on if classes are in session. The buses will give you pick up spots and drop off places. The time to arrive can be anytime over 40 minutes to 50 minutes and more.

I think we just drove around a couple of blocks and found a spot on a side street about half a block off of Congress. Just need a little patience.
