My company visited Lone Star and had a largely positive time. Horseback riding and skeet shooting were especially enjoyable.
Booking the ranch was VERY expensive, and to save a bit money, we cut back on number of events — no ATVs, archery, armadillos, etc. This ended up leaving us with too much downtime, as if the ranch didn't know what to do with us if we weren't in the middle of an activity. We ended up leaving a bit early because of the downtime.
Recommended for organized horseback riding/shooting/"Texas Activities" but to get a full experience you're going to have to pay a lot of money

Our group of four consisted of 2 beginners, a novice rider and myself as a horse owner and a very seasoned rider. I requested very 'quiet' horses for 3 of the people in our group, as I wanted this to be a relaxing, wonderful experience. Booking our ride with Madison was easy and she answered all of my questions. This was described as a "working ranch" which set this trail ride apart from others that I had considered. Upon arrival, we checked in at the office where we were greeted by staff and asked to go through paperwork, read and sign. Ask questions if need be. Bathrooms were available, as well as indoor and outdoor seating near the office. We were fitted with helmets and then taken to the big riding arena where the horses were being tacked up for us. The grounds were clean and inviting and the horses were quiet and in great body score. Our trail led out behind the building and shortly we crossed a stream and continued on the trail. Our trail guide, Nicole, a seasoned rider was friendly and visited as we rode, answering any questions that we had. The landscape we rode was mostly flat and wooded providing for a relaxing ride. Horses were well-behaved and remained quiet the entire ride. I give Texas Trail Rides a 5 Star, excellent rating for all of these reasons and recommend Texas Trail Rides to others who wish to have a memorable riding experience while in Texas.

My daughter and I have been taking Father~Daughter weekends for over ten (10) years. I live on a ranch, have riden horses since a child, but we have always liked to ride. This year we chose Texas Trail Rides which is within 10 miles of downtown Austin. Even though my daughter have riden together since she was a little girl, we we still like to go places on our weekends together and ride.
We chose Texas Trail Rides because the owner used to own a venue in a different locale and we had used her stables before. We arrived on Saturday afternoon and checked in about 30 minutes before the ride. The office staff was friendly and professional. We had scheduled the last ride of the day and had Alicia as our Wrangler. She was GREAT! No rushing, a lot of conversation, and just an all around fun hour and a half ride. The great thing is that the stables consist of about 40 acres, but they have access to a Nature Preserve adjoining their property which we had access to riding. It is a restricted area so it was all natural. During the ride, we saw two red tailed hawks and probably 6 or 7 deer on the ride. Again, Alicia was an excellent conversationalist and an outstanding guide.
The second day, we had Shelby as our wrangler, and another rider that was a complete novice. Shelby was very patient, kind and understanding of that rider. There was no rush, and the ride once again was an hour and a half and very relaxed. Emily and I could tell the novice was very relaxed due to Shelby's temperament
Texas Trail Rides is so convenient to Austin. We had such a great ride both days, partly due to the great wrangler guides. We would recommend this stable to anyone, both experienced and novice. They definitely know how to make you feel welcome and comfortable on a ride

Online reservations and emailed follow up were all timely, easy, and accurate. On the day of our reservation we were greeted promptly and enthusiastically. Thanks to others cancelling the two of us were treated to a private trail ride with our wrangler Kelsey. Kelsey was very kind and knowledgeable, engaging, and thorough from the time we stepped into the ring to meet our horses until the moment we said goodbye. Prices were competitive. Our ride was very nice though woods and fields and away from traffic and other city distractions. Our horses were great and the other guests we encountered were all very friendly. I'd definitely give these folks another try the next time I'm down in Austin with a free afternoon.

Went and checked out Texas Trail Rides today, April 2020. I cannot say enough good things about this place.
First off the place is amazing, the indoor arena is perfect, all of the horses are WELL taken care of and gorgeous. They have horses for every level rider from beginner-advanced even for the little kids ! Gunner is probably the sweetest horse I’ve ever come across. We rode down the trail and got to ride through the creek (come on, who doesn’t want to ride a horse through water!!) this is the perfect get away just minutes from Downtown Austin. Tina the owner is amazing as well as the staff, they are all extremely knowledgeable, patient and down to earth. During this crazy coronavirus we are all going through, they were very careful and aware of keeping distance from each other and having hand sanitizer readily available. You can tell that Health and Safety of their guests, employees and horses is the #1 priority. What a better time than now to get out of the house and take a relaxing, scenic trail ride on some great horses.

What a wonderful trail ride! My sister was visiting from New York and we had a group with a range of experience, but the staff and their amazing horses made it a really special experience.
The ranch is beautiful and so convenient to downtown Austin. Couldn't recommend more.

We had an amazing time on our trail ride here. The property is beautiful and very well kept. All of the staff were extremely sweet and welcoming. This was my son’s first time riding a horse and he fell in love with it. The ride was beautiful and we got to walk through Onion Creek and the scenery was serene and peaceful. Our guide Annabelle was wonderful. You could tell how much she loved her job and horses. She made my son feel very comfortable and taught him a lot about horses, chatting during the ride. She was very professional yet fun and she really made the whole experience that much better. I would highly recommend this place.

I've never had any real horseback riding experience but didn't have any problem during the ride. The horse was super friendly and nice, and the guides have been so, so, so helpful and encouraging. The entire ride was tranquil and still exciting and absolutely surpassed my expectations.
Lone Star Ranch is also totally worth the visit by itself. There were 6 kittens and a pup that would follow you to get head scratches. Everybody there loved horses and animals in general. I'd absolutely go back.

Little father/son get away and picked TTR because of the reviews. They didn't disappoint. Our Wrangler (Sawyer) was really great, and the staff and facility also did a great job on the whole experience. We'll definitely be going back.

This was a really fun, relaxing time. Our trail guide, was very friendly and was easy to have conversation with. The trails were fun, the horses were well behaved, and this was the highlight of our trip to Texas! My friend and I are both equestrians, so we got to do some of the more advanced trails which was a blast. Highly recommend. I will definitely book again when I am in Austin!

First of all, I am not Mark. I Scott Ream. Just a little advice. You ought to have drinks for sale at the ranch and you can't go wrong with T-shirts and water bottles with your logo on them. But other than that Rock on!

I am an experienced rider, do you do trail rides with smaller groups where it can be a bit more challenging?

Buckaroo rides include a mini private lesson, trail
Ride and farm animal Petting zoo. It is the perfect experience to introduce or expand your family's exposure to horses. It is great for all ages and is $75/pp. We actually do all the bucksroo rides at our non-profit: the Texas Horse Center in Austin. Your family will love it!-Tina
