Great shopping and eating on South Congress!
A bit too far to walk from our hotel, so we took the Number 1 bus from Guadaloupe and 4th, and got off in front of the iconic cowboy boot store, Allens Boots. Well worth a visit! Then had lunch at Guero's. Casual family atmosphere, great service, and the largest and best burrito I've ever eaten. There was also lots of fun shopping, including an Hermes store! This area of Austin is a definite must! We loved it.

An Excellent Place to Shop Around
We enjoyed a little shopping on Congress Avenue. We loved going to the Paperwork Store, the Big Top Candy Store, as well as visiting the I Love You So Much Mural. This is a great place to shop around and enjoy the scenery!!

My Airbnb place was near South Congress, so I made a few trips by car here. There are lots of restaurants and boutique shops on the avenue, a great place to shop and eat. I made a stop at the Big Top Candy Shop on South Congress Avenue as it was on my list of places to visit.

Austin's South Congress is "weird" in a really good way.
We were recommended to stroll along the shops and sites of Austin's South Congress Avenue and we were not disappointed. It was fun to pop into the funky shops (and we did support the local economy) and see the murals. We had a nice snack break at Perla's and enjoyed sitting in the courtyard on a beautiful day.

South Austin is terrific. A mix of mid century modern, art deco, and wild west architecture - beautiful murals everywhere from the Austin postcard to the "I love you so much". A great little area and must see!

Things are spread out in Austin so this street runs about four or five blocks and then threre is not much else to see close by.But I would recommend going to see it for a stroll. There are two boot shops.I can not remember the name of either of them but I would tell you this...the small one that is not advertised as much has the most beautiful, pristine boots. The other one that gets all the hype...well..... It's a bigger store but I thought the boots were used. There are thrift shops and a Stetson Hat shop. It's fun,go see for yourself

I love SoCo! Great food, music, and shopping. What more do you need? As an Austinite, this is where I love to hangout. Parking may be a bit tricky depending on what time you go but you can always Uber. A tourist must-do!

This was a fun cultural district in Austin, but honestly, it's like when a friend hypes up a movie so much that it ends up being disappointing even though it was okay. I read so many wonderful things about this area, so when it was just "okay" I was disappointed. Lots of murals and fun shops, but that's about it. Just go into it knowing it's cool but not AMAZING.

South Congress is a fab neighborhood. We stayed a few nights at a rental behind the Austin Motel, just one block up from the action. A big variety of restaurants and shops close by. On the weekends folks set up stalls outside to peddle their wares. Jo's coffee always has a line, but worth the wait and a selfie by the I Love You sign. We also popped into the Continental Club to hear the house band = no cover. We were too late in the season for the nightly bats flying from the bridge which is about a 15 min. walk. Would happy stay in the area again. Enjoy!

If checking this out I’d go in the day as there are shops. Wasn’t my kind of shopping. Lots of restaurants for foodies. Reservations would probably be smart. Not much available mid afternoon as some offer small plates or snacks at that time.

We were interested in vintage shopping & dining. Check & check! Feathers Boutique & Prototype Vintage were inspiring to visit with wonderfully curated finds. We had late lunch/early dinner @ Guero’s Taco Bar which was fantastic. This is a fun area to spend an afternoon.

You cannot visit Austin without hanging out on South Congress Ave. Make a day out of it or late afternoon shopping then dinner and music for the evening. For day time I suggest going on a better shopping day like Friday when everyone is out and about. Clothes and shoe vendors may be doing tent sales, people are lunching, etc. Visit the famous Allen's Boots, eat at Guero's Taco Bar for good margaritas, tacos, and enchiladas, or eat quickly at Home Slice Pizza. Do look at nightly shows at the famous Continental or C-Boys for the best musical entertainment in the city. So much to do and see. I Love S.C.!!

I was traveling with my mom when we went to Austin, and this was the first stop on our list! So many unique shops, including the boot stores, for those of you that want the true Texas feel. It is very lively throughout the day, and into the evening. They also have great restaurants, two of them we ate at. On our last day we weren't sure where else to go, so we stopped on SoCo again, and saw things we missed the first day! Highly reccomend!
