We went to the mural as part of a scavenger hunt, so it was cool to see and get a photo with it. Luckily it wasn't very busy, but this space isn't very large so I can see how a large group would take up a lot of time and sidewalk space and make you wait. I thought the area was pretty neat and full of some cool little shops worth the visit as well.

It's a mural - nothing more, nothing less. It's located away from the central/downtown area in Austin in a residential neighborhood so we did drive a bit out of the way. We just took a photo of it from the car rather than double parking or trying to find parking.

One of the most fun – and free – things to do in Austin is to set off on a scavenger hunt to find some of the many street murals spread around the city. Some are iconic (like the “Greetings from Austin” mural); others are whimsical (e.g., the psychedelic frogs mural) but all are instagrammable. Warning: There is no single list of Austin’s street murals and even if there were, these urban art installations may be painted over or, in the case of one of the largest examples, Austin’s famed Hope Outdoor Gallery, moved to a new location. As of January, 2019, here are the locations of a few street murals within a few miles’ radius of downtown (you can find many, many more spread throughout the Austin Metro area):
Name/Description of Mural (Location for your GPS)
Psychedelic frogs (600 San Jacinto Boulevard)
“I love you so much” (1300 South Congress Avenue [side of Jo’s Coffee])
Willie Nelson for President (1423 South Congress Avenue [side of Stag Provisions])
“Smile even if you don’t want to” (South Congress & Elizabeth Streets)
“Greetings from Austin”(1720 South First Street)

I always like to have my photo taken near the Greetings From Murals in Towns I visit. Austin’s is the same as them all. Tucked away out of the CBD. Bit of a chore to locate

We love collecting postcards - and this is a photo spot with a life size postcard to pose by. It’s a bit out of the way, but it was fun to stop and take photos

Who can resist this? It was the perfect photo to cap off several days exploring this awesome city. Depending on the time of day, you might have politely wait your turn to take photos, and don't get hit by a car while you stand in the street trying to get a shot that includes the whole mural, but worth the visit. It is fairly close to South Congress Street by car, so make the trip!

Greetings from Austin, the Capital of Texas! This is a painted mural located in Austin at 1720 S. 1st street. It’s a popular stopping point for tourists who want a photo- op moment perfect for sharing with friends and family.
We stopped at this mural as part of an escorted tour of the area. Our tour guide told us that this is the most instagrammed site in the Austin area, and it makes sense that it would be. With its postcard- like background and artistic qualities, it is a nice place to stop and snap a picture.
Since this is such a popular place for photography, it can get quite crowded, so be prepared to wait your turn. We were here with a van load of about 12 people and we did have to wait for another group to finish. The good thing is, pictures don’t usually take long to snap so please be patient- your opportunity to take your own pic will arrive sooner than later.
Austin prides itself in weirdness, so be sure to stop at the Greetings from Austin mural to prove to the world that you were here, in the weird capital of America. It’s a cool mural and it does make for lasting memories, whether you share on Instagram or other social media.

Local mural to welcome to Austin. In a neighborhood, free to take photos. Just park on the street, jump out, take a photo.

This was a great stop on our visit to Austin. Street parking is close. We did enjoying seeing this mural and visiting some of the little shops in the area.
