We didn't do one of the tours instead we rented a tandem kayak for the day! Such a great experience, we were able to kayak the Colorado river and then kayak down to Barton Springs. Definitely if you have the time kayak to Barton springs-- some of rope swings, lots of turtles, can jump off a bridge but then end is where most people are just hanging out and lounging, perfect way to cool off! Enjoyed the freedom of just renting a kayak and going where we wanted to go and having as much time as we wanted.

We were supposed to rent the kayak at 10am, it turned more into 10:30. There was no one there when we showed up and ended up calling the company. They told us he was on his way but stuck in traffic, would've been nice for them to reach out to us since they had my contact information instead of leaving us in the dark and making us call them.

We rented a kayak from Lone Star and they made the whole process quick and easy. Board was great, we brought it back late after they had closed up shop and they even drove back over and opened up for us to safely stow the gear we had rented from them. Thanks and will recommend to anyone visiting who wants a fun day on the water!

For my group of 3 friends visiting Austin, experiencing time on the water was a must for us. We found Lone Star Kayak online and then used the rental Lime scooters to get there (slightly hidden, have to look for signs). The employees were very helpful & personable. We got to rent a huge new Paddleboard & were the first people to try it out! It was a really fun unique activity, must do in Austin!

Our guide was very nice and helpful with the Kayaks. However the negative to the trip: the trip should provide a cold water for the kayakers. At $55 it would cost the company less than $.25 cents for the water.
However the biggest negative was that the guide knew nothing about Bats, the history of the Congress bridge bat conservation etc. We knew more from researching bats ourselves. Also the other tours all had a light source for their kayakers which was missing from our tour and it’s dark when you finish.
Would not recommend this tour- other tours looked better informed.

I'm sorry for your negative experience. We have since changed managers and addressed all the issues you have brought up by having water on hand, experienced and knowledgeable guides, and providing headlamps to all our guests. If we can do anything else to help your previous bad experience please let us know.

We enjoyed the trip, I had seen the bats from the bridge, much more impressive from beneath the bridge. Stephen was an fun, friendly, knowledgable guide. It was a lot of fun, nice warm water and a gentle current. Defiantly will go again.

My wife and I went with two of our college age kids on the Kayak Bat Tour in Austin. We met behind Joes Crab Shavknon Riverside and everything we needed was provided. Cody was our guide and did an outstanding job all the way from giving us info concerning the skyline of Austin; which you can see very well from the water, info on the bats and habitat, history of Austin and through ending up towing my daughter and her friend because they couldn't keep up, lol. Just think the girls enjoyed having Cody tow them.

It was a great tour. We paddled up to Barton creek up into Zilker Park, very pretty paddle. We had a great view of the bats as they came out from beneath the Congress Street Bridge. It's amazing how many of them there are and very cool watching them come out in a huge ribbon over the trees.

I highly recommend this tour as the paddling isn't difficult, we were all doubled up, and the pace was easy. Best way to see the bats in Austin and ask for Cody as he will go the extra mile!

Had an enjoyable evening with our guide, John, who provided us with a very informative trip about Austin, its history over the last 40-50 years, its anticipated future and plenty of facts about the Mexico Free-Tailed Bats. It was really a private tour as we were the only two to sign up for tonight's event. Lady Bird Lake had plenty of kayaks, power boats, small paddlewheel boats and a bridge full of spectators all witnessing the bats taking flight. Unfortunately, tonight's activities were not nearly as plentiful as some of the photos advertising the event. Overall, we had a very good time and our guide, John, was super.

Sorry that you didn't get to see as many bats as you'd like. The guide should of informed you that you were coming in late bat season.

John was our guide; I write that first because he was the most important variable for making our excursion 5+ stars!!! It was all good, but it is the people with whom you interact that are the key to the experience, and John was over-the-top. Some suggestions I have are: 1. Wear water shoes or sandals & shorts or a bathing suit (in October anyway); you won't get wet but it just makes it easier; 2. Bring a camera (or your phone with a camera); it also will not get wet; 3. Bring a water bottle, the paddle is easy but nice to have water esp. if it is warm. They say show up 30 minutes early and that might be necessary if it is a big group or if this is your first time kayaking, but 15 minutes early seems fine (call them and ask them). Parking is a breeze! When you pull into Joe's Crab Shack parking lot, go all the way over the right and park, the kayaks are right behind the restaurant on that side. Getting in the water is easy. They push your kayak partway into the water, and you step from dry land into the kayak, and then they gently shove you off---easy and not one drop of water gets on you. In fact, the only water that gets on you throughout the trip are the drips from the paddles as you paddle along. Oh yes, SUNSCREEN is important; you are on the water with reflected rays even if there is cloud cover. It is a relaxing, enjoyable, good value experience and I would highly recommend it. I'll bet all their guides are good. It seems like that kind of company, but I will request John if I do it again.

Went kayaking for the first time with my husband last weekend. Such a great experience. I was a little nervous as Im not the most balanced person in the world. Lol. John was just wonderful, such a unique and fun personality. He was so helpful, gave us some tips on how to steer and not tip over... Will definitely only use Lone Star Kayak Tours when we're back in town. Thanks John, we had an amazing time!!!

We had a great time on the river. It was a nice way to see the skyline, watch the evening sunset and see the bats. I would recommend the tour.
