If it's in Texas, it must be bigger and better. That is the motto that architects followed with the Capitol Building in Austin. At one time, it was the tallest capitol building in the nation. Others might be taller now, but this is still a beautiful building that shows off many of the natural resources which are so prevalent in Texas, such as limestone and the landscapes.

This is a "must-see" for Austin Texas visitors! You step back in time when you visit this place. Read the postings, view the portraits, and visit the many rooms where history is being made. And don't forget to visit the center of the ground floor, beneath the rotunda! You stand on that star, and then you speak ... <listen> Your... More

Outstanding architecture. Lots of fine detail (just check out the hinges, dude). Lovely grounds. This is a MUST DO for out-of-towners. Really impressive at night as well. Excellent 1 hour or so spent well on the past of Texas. Highly recommended for family, friends, or just cooling off from the heat.

Usually state capitals are no much to see but the Texas state capital is an exception. The state has history of a struggle to establish it itself as a country. The struggle is depicted in the paintings on display. Also The architecture is very beautiful and you can go in the house Chambers to see what they look like and... More

Find out everything there is to know about Texas government here in this beautiful building and on these lovely grounds. Take a guided tour or you can do a self-guided tour. Either way, you'll be much smarter when you leave than before you came!!

If you are into history or government you may appreciate this a lot more than I did. But it is just so beautiful to wonder around and enjoy the atmosphere.

Awesome building. The building was open to the public. No renovations, doors hallways, interior all original. The grounds were well kept with numerous statues illustrating the history of Texas. It was a nice walk from our hotel. The University of Texas was within walking distance of the capital.

I have enjoyed this tour numerous times with visiting family and friends. There is always something new to learn and it sums up the history of Texas with art politics and outlaws in a short amount of time. Highly recommended before you drive down to tour the Alamo. Be sure you can hear the docent guide you will not want... More

Beautiful grounds! A visit here is a must. Strolling the beatiful grounds is better in the morning as the afternoons are quite hot. Highly suggest a tour from one of the historians on cite!
