We were staying in SOCO and ventured in to the Continental Club a Friday night for the house band. The small club was full, but the audience comes and goes throughout the evening. We were able to land a banquette seat along the wall. No cover, great tunes, fun and friendly folks. Head on over!

This is a great place to listen to local music. If you are lucky enough to catch James McMurtry when he is in town to play a midnight show during the week, I highly suggest a visit. The beverages are cold and the service is friendly. The acoustics are good and comfortable area.

I took a trip to Austin for several reasons, but chief among them was to hear good music. I did lots of pre-trip research, and saw that this club has been around since the mid-50s and still attracted many local bands. Well, I was not disappointed. The decor is still from 1955, and if it’s crowded, prepare to stand. But there’s lots of earlier slots with no cover , so you can just sit for a couple of hours and take it all in.

Such a great spot! Definitely check it out. We went in a Sunday night for a country band and learned how to two-step by some kind locals. Great venue right in the heart of S Congress across from the Hotel San José!

We saw Casper Rawls and Earl Poole Ball on a Thursday at six-thirty. No cover and reasonable drink prices. Both are in their 70s but have had big careers and can still play. Maybe only 40 seats and there were only a few left when they came on right at 630. Good size dance floor.

Good music but you are going to see a TV disrupting the show unless you are near the front. I have no idea why they feel they need to have a bright TV in a dark room when everyone is there to listen to music. I was also disappointed they refused to turn it off.

We decided to visit the Continental Club as several locals told us that we must see this place as it is a great authentic dive bar on South Congress street that draws in locals and visitors. The Continental Club has been an Austin fixture since 1957. It feels old and comfy, but in a good way. The Continental Club is much smaller than I expected it to be. Lots of great bands and artists play here. This famous club is always packed, as the choices are great no matter what the night. It’s usually hard to get there in enough time to get a seat but fun to stand or dance. The Cover charge is not too steep. The band was not very good the night we were there ($7 pp cover charge). Beer prices here were $5, which I though were quite reasonable for this area. I do not believe they serve food, but there are a ton of cute eateries right in the area. Try not to think about the gross condition of the bathrooms—you came here for the awesome music. Glad I got to visit this legendary club. We walked back to four seasons hotel where we were staying, as it was only a 20-minute walk.

For those visiting Texas who want a slice of real country music, this is the place.
$10 buys you one and a half hours of good quality authentic tunes.
No other charges apply.
There is also a smmll dance floor.
A great addition to your Texan experience.

Visiting Austin I wanted to visit the famous Continental Club. On a Monday night I was able to catch the 10:30pm show of Dale Watson and his Lonestars. The show itself was great, Dale made me a fan.
The interior is dimly lit. Standing bar on one side, long bench on the other. In the middle of the floor is tables and talk chairs. The dance floor is in front of the stage. In the rear is a cash only bar and a pool table.
I had a great time here, stayed almost four hours. Service is friendly.Drink prices are reasonable and there's shirts and other items to buy. I'll definitely be back!

On a Rainey Sunday afternoon at an Iconic honky tonk. But while nostalgia doesn't always play well this joint hit the note. Peeked in just for a look see and ended up staying for the whole show. Five guitars (one steel) took an appreciative crowd all over the place from classic hill billy to just now. A good reminder why Austin journeyman players are just better, period. Great band, great crowd, great bar. And did I mention the Honky Tonk Doctor gives honky tonk advice for just twenty five cents?
