I took a trip to Austin for several reasons, but chief among them was to hear good music. I did lots of pre-trip research, and saw that this club has been around since the mid-50s and still attracted many local bands. Well, I was not disappointed. The decor is still from 1955, and if it’s crowded, prepare to stand. But there’s lots of earlier slots with no cover , so you can just sit for a couple of hours and take it all in.

We saw Casper Rawls and Earl Poole Ball on a Thursday at six-thirty. No cover and reasonable drink prices. Both are in their 70s but have had big careers and can still play. Maybe only 40 seats and there were only a few left when they came on right at 630. Good size dance floor.

If you want to visit a location in Austin that has a ton of history then you need to visit this place. They post online who’s playing, what genre, and if there’s a cover required.

This is a great place to listen to local music. If you are lucky enough to catch James McMurtry when he is in town to play a midnight show during the week, I highly suggest a visit. The beverages are cold and the service is friendly. The acoustics are good and comfortable area.

Enjoyed seeing a local act and a local legend in the same night while in Austin on business. This place is a solid bar with a good stage and a great history of having local and national acts. Head upstairs for music too if you have the chance.
