It took us 30 minutes or so to make the hike to the desk. The hike is pretty easy with a mild incline. The first part of the trail is especially rocky. We had no trouble finding the desk. We followed the main trail, stayed...More

My couch potato family all enjoyed this hike. We did it on a windy day and everyone complained about the weather but it was well worth it, and my 9 year old son (who only ever wants to be on his computer) said it was...More

Seriously do not follow other's instructions on hiking to the desk. We followed other's directions and got lost, but just as I was about to give up, we thankfully came across a couple who had a map they got from Sul Ross (I believe they...More

My daughters wanted to make the hike to the desk to put their names in the notebook. Check! It's not a bad hike, only takes about 20 minutes to get from the parking lot to the desk. Wear good shoes. Lots of loose rock on...More

The desk and bike tree are reachable by a short easy hike up Hancock Hill and once there you need to sign the desk. The hike is accessed behind Sul Ross University and is a must see.

Just a fun little hike that people have been enjoying for many years. Take a hike up a mountain and never even leave town. Spend some time to study the view, once you're there.

It is not as easy as you would expect. There are several mini-mountains/large hills behind the campus zig-zagged with so many trails going this way and that. Apparently, there is a map at the college library (along with the original desk)...but we kept going back...More

Loved the hike to The Desk. Tried it once last summer and couldn't find it. This time we made sure to stay to the right and found it. Also look for the Bicycle Tree.

Climbing Hancock Hill with out of town guests has become a ritual many Alpine-ites share. I guess the Desk itself has changed from time to time, but the panoramic views of the Alpine Basin are timeless. Don't miss it!

Finding the desk is a little adventure in itself. It's up the hill and to the ene direction. Farther and closer than you think. 4th entrance and go up to last parking lot ( mountainside dorm). Park and start the hike up the hill. Stay...More
