This is a treasure that does such a great job of offering not only history but also activities for kids. The traveling displays that come through have been amazing. We're partial to Christmas time there so we can look at all of the cool trees and amazing gingerbread works.

On the whole this is kind of your average town history museum. What really makes this museum stand out is the building itself and the taxidermy room. The building is in beautiful condition and is a true jewel in the middle of Aberdeen. The museum is set up in a very nice way that allows you to wander down the... More

Thank you so much for the wonderful review. We love our Hatterscheidt Wildlife Gallery, too! Mr. Fred Hatterscheidt was one of three gentlemen who donated our building to the county for use as a museum in 1970. We are always looking for ways to improve our exhibits and we rotate our art galleries shows on a regular basis. But we... More

Spent about five minutes looking at the exhibits and five minutes in the gift shop. Bought a book on the Sioux in South Dakota history. Had hoped to see more on Native America history.

Thank you for stopping by our local museum! We strive to tell the stories of all the peoples that have settled in our area and to be historically accurate. I hope you spent some time in our "Traditional Native American Housing" exhibit which features life-size dwellings of the Arikara and the Lakota Plains Indians. There are three recordings by tribal... More

Local and state history. Very interesting displays without being too detailed. Child had their own art space, play area for imaging. History of the prairie was great.

My kids (ages 4 & 6) and I went here last week. First off, the lady inside was writing and didn't even acknowledge our arrival until we were part way down the hallway. And there really is nothing to do here. Very boring. The "exciting childrens exhibit" on the second floor consists of a wall you can color on (and... More

Over all I would rate it a 7 of 10. Wonderful connection to StoryBookLand. We met one of the artists that did the wildlife connection just simply out of chance. The second floor was being renovated. How high are the ceilings, 14 ft?
