About
Welcome to the Award Winning Anderson County Museum! Our 12,000 square foot gallery offers inspiration and innovation experiences through our collections, exhibits, programs and events. We engage visitors with our artifact-driven approach in galleries that are not static, but offer new and exciting exhibits, events, and programs monthly. For more than 35 years we have told the stories of Anderson County and South Carolina. These stories educate visitors on the local, regional, and national significance our rich history proclaims. As a museum with more than 25,000 artifacts, our permanent exhibits are always changing. New temporary exhibits are presented quarterly as we collect, preserve and interpret objects in the ACM collection.

Fascinating tour
May 2021
We had a miscommunication when booking a spot on the tour, so I recommend a confirmation call. John, the docent told us history of Anderson County including tales of his life with his grandfather on his farm. I highly recommend this for all especially students of Anderson County and surrounding areas. The artifacts are a treasure and a steal at the suggested donation of $3. Pay more, it is worth it.

Great Museum of Local History
Jun 2020
The Anderson County Museum was an unexpected "find" on our trip through the area. It is charming, well laid out, and full of beautiful exhibits. We spent about two hours there and could've stayed longer except we needed to be on our way elsewhere. And it's free (donations gratefully accepted.)

This museum is a little gem!

This is a very nice museum. Large, with well curated exhibits. There's educational and fun stuff here for adults and children, as well as a very nice gift shop that included books by several local authors. The staff was very friendly as well.

Different but worth seeing

Nice displays. Its bigger then we thought it would be. Worth the few hours we spent here. Not sure how often they change things up here.

It's about time
Feb 2019 • Couples
We've lived in Anderson for almost 34 years and we finally went to the Museum! It is much bigger than I thought and chocked full of interesting facts and pieces. For instance, we learned that the first African-American to be awarded the Medal Of Honor during World World I or II was from Anderson County. We spent about 2 hours there and still didn't see all it has to offer. Don't forget the gift shop! Oh yeah, there is not cost to visit, that means that it's free. But please make a donation to keep it going.

Field trip

3rd grade field trip. So many historical exhibits hit the 3rd grade standards. Beautiful displays, so much information. Nice gift shop focused on South Carolina. Great free way to spend your time. Mistletoe Market in November for Christmas shopping featuring artisans from nc, sc, and georgia.

More than I expected
Jul 2018 • Family
I think alot of the people in & around the area take this place for granted. You might expect to come in for 5 minutes, and be done. But actually there's alot to see and do here. I can imagine if you take a sincere interest. You could actually spend an hour or more here. There's games for kids inside, and plenty of great history. And as far as I can tell, taken photos are fine. And I have included a few. Let me know what you think.
Restrooms are also insde. So if you are in the area, stop on in.....it's FREE** And well worth your time. I am glad we did.
