Galactic Ice is a place I highly recommend ice skating at if you are in the Altoona area, it is opened year round and it is reasonable. They have a schedual of times when they have open skate to the public, but still that shouldn't put a stop to going there. It is awesome and the people there are very nice. One day Steamer (Curve Mascot) came by to ice skate and he is a very good skater.

It's a nice place for kids and adults. The ice is always pretty good. And the rental skates are in decent shape.

My daughter has been going to Galactic Ice for 7+ years, both for ice skating and to play hockey. The staff there is great. The ice surface is always in very good co ndition. They have many public ice skating times to take advantage of. They also have many hockey leagues and clinics for kids, ages 4-18 to take advantage of also. Their public skating prices are good. But the prices for anything hockey is very expensive, unfortunately. She also has had birthday parties there for a few years and everything was great, a good value.

We celebrated our daughter’s sweet 16 here with lots of friends and family. Making reservations was simple, and the day of the party went seamlessly. The staff was very helpful!

We went in after looking into the closed Lakemont Park (it was the first week in November but I need to see Leap the Dips in person, even from outside the fence). Some kind of hockey game was going on. The building was a pretty basic community rink with an arcade, decent side lobby, vending machines, and a skating rink separated by the lobby by doors. One feature I liked was that the lobby overlooked the ice so people don't have to go into the bleachers. Overall this looks a nice community rink that serves Altoona well.

We like to spend Sunday afternoons during the winter months for open skate. Sometimes are more crowded than others and there is no real rhyme or reason to this. We have been there sometimes when people are having birthday parties. It is a nice family time.

I took my visiting grandsons and their local cousins for the 1 1/2 hour open skate. Out side was boiling hot but we were wearing light gloves and sweat shirts. It was the first and second time on the ice for the visiting grandsons...we used buy one get one free coupons...made it a little better for grandma who paid. The second visit was because they so loved the first......

I don't understand why more people don't go ice skating when it's hot. I just don't see standing in the hot sun in a long line to ride rides or for a water slide. But thanks to most people standing in the hot sun today we enjoyed the ice rink. 5 people was all that was there for open skate. We enjoyed the time. For those of you who want to do something different on a hot day check this out. A light jacket and some pants is all you need. Gloves wouldn't hurt but you can manage without.

Ice is nice and smooth. There is a game room, exercise room, and a café. It is simply the best ice rink in the area. And it is beside Lakemont park, and people's natural gas field some very cool attractions to check out.
