- 907blakedTampa, Florida1,419 contributionsNice free museum with good variety of artWe spent about 75 to 90 minutes here. It's a small collection, but it has an impressive collection ranging from Rembrandt to Frank Lloyd Wright to Faith Ringold to Keith Haring and more. The Frank Lloyd Wright library was very nice to see. Lots of good American art. I particularly enjoyed the top floor exhibits. Small gift shop. The cafe has apparently not been operational since the pandemic. Paid street (meter) parking right outside. Loved that the museum was FREE!Visited January 2023Written January 6, 2023
- Shawn HWashington DC, District of Columbia393 contributionsSmall Museum with Broad AppealThis small art museum offers a large variety for any art lover, from local history focused exhibits, to more avant garde art made from gymstones and glass benefiting from changing light conditions, to a selection of old classics and bold letter names. The museum even boasts a reconstructed Frank Lloyd Wright room. While you won't spend the whole day here, the museum is free and should have wide appeal. A worthwhile community amenity and somewhere visitors should check out. The museum was not too busy when we were there and all facilities were well cared for.Visited November 2022Written January 8, 2023
- RonL40Utica, New York3,524 contributionsA real gem in the Lehigh ValleyWe had heard that the museum was a good one and stopped on our way to upstate NY from Philadelphia. Great decision. The museum is a true gem: beautiful collection, with emphasis on America twentieth century and a nice Renaissance group: Uccello, Rembrandt, Lorenzo Lotto, Hals and Steen are joined by Robert Henri, Claes Oldenburg, Robert Motherwell, Franz Kline and Louise Nevelson. Make sure not to miss the Frank Lloyd Wright library. The staff was very friendly; several times, we were provided with interesting inside information about pieces we were enjoying. Very nice collection that is well worth visiting if you are in the Lehigh Valley.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 11, 2023

As a local, not for profit organization, with the intent of promoting art and education within the community and beyond, I was highly disappointed with the treatment by staff and security this past weekend. After calling to confirm that I would be allowed to take pictures of my daughter in her prom dress at the museum by front receptionist, Donald, we were then ambushed at the entrance by museum staff to inform us that we were given the incorrect information. At this point, we had no time to make other arrangements as this was our only stopping point prior to my daughter going to prom. The frustration and disappointment was overwhelming as she was unable to take outdoor photos due to the rain. Upon asking for an explanation, we were told that this type of photography (modeling) was prohibited without prior arrangement. Merriam Webster defines modeling as such, "to work or act as a fashion or art model" to which I informed them that personal pictures were encouraged in the museum according to the website. How are personal photos modeling? When I asked about taking her pictures in jeans and a top they said that was fine, which begs the question, is this a form of discrimination based on gender and personal wardrobe choice? The security guard made every effort to appear intimidating by standing with his legs apart and arms crossed over his chest at the entrance. Again, begging the question of whether this is gender discrimination and symbolic aggression as he was attempting to intimidate 2 women in their 40's and 2 seventeen year old girls. I did request and receive a copy of the museum policy regarding photography which had no verbiage to prohibit such types of photos and any posted material on the museum website does not cite anything against personal photos in the museum. The fact that we were given permission should have been enough to allow us to proceed into the museum, take our photos, and then leave. To retract that permission, after arrangements had been made, and cause such animosity and ill will to members of the community is disgraceful and very unprofessional. I should have continued my patronage of the Sigal Museum in Easton as they have always proven professional and actually welcoming of the community into their facility to promote a collaborative effort between art, education, and the community. Needless to say, I will not be returning to the Allentown Art Museum. As an educator in the area, I will be sure to let every student, parent, and fellow educator that I come in contact with know of my personal experience at the museum, encouraging them to visit the Sigal Museum instead.

We visited on a rainy weekend and ended up spending over 2 hours. This museum was much more than I expected. Even with the 2nd floor closed, there was so much to look at. I loved the Frank Lloyd Wright library from the Little house, and was also thrilled to find a large painting by Daniel Garber, one of my favorites. Great to see the Rembrandt too. We enjoyed the variety of art, from paintings to sculpture to glassware to textiles and more. And the most amazing part was that this museum is free! What a treasure in Allentown.

It's a small museum but they have a few excellent pieces in their collection such as Rembrandt, Hals, van Mieris, Moreelse, Canaletto, a good collection of American artists, and of course, the Frank Lloyd Wright library (it's actually quite unremarkable).
Just be aware that the Rembrandt is out to Canada and may not be back before next year.
The staff are very nice and helpful and volunteer providing information if they notice your interest in a particular canvas.

Nice gift shop, a few treasures, and some very solid good work. It has parking on site, which is very welcome in downtown Allentown, but you have to pay attention to the signs to get to it, not a problem. If you love art or are introducing someone to art, this is worth a stop.

If you have not checked it out, you really need to do that. I think the museum displays are organized well. It is such a relaxing way to spend time to go through this Art Museum. One of my favorite displays is the Frank Lloyd Wright Room they were so blessed to get many years ago. This is still one of my favorite things to see in the Museum, since I love Frank Lloyd Wright Architecture.
If you haven't been to the Allentown Art Museum, you really need to check it out. If you need distressing, this is a wonderful place to visit.

I visited here on a Sunday with my girlfriend; admission is free on Sundays. The museum has three different floors and the selections are very good. This isnt the largest museum of art out there, but it is the best one in the Allentown area.

Very nice gallery with interesting visiting exhibits. It's a shame it doesn't seem to get as much traffic as it deserves
