I am not a crafty individual, but I signed up for the bowl & cup pottery class, despite my lack of artistic talent. Mallorie was the instructor and her calm demeanor & expertise were fabulous. She gave clear instructions and all 8 of us were at various stages of experience. She helped everyone & was very patient & kind. I look forward to seeing my bowl & taking another class soon! I highly recommend this place!

Located in a cute shop off the main drag. When I saw the book shelf on the front porch loaded with books, I knew I was going to like this place! I had been following them for a few months on FB, and knew I wanted to buy one of the luminaries, and was happy they still had some in stock. Also bought a lovely mug - enjoyed my tea in that this morning. We also picked up a wedding gift. Wish we could have been in town longer, I would have loved to take a class.

So many things to look at. The work of different artists gives you lots of choices. The quality of the pieces are exceptional. I met the owner and a couple of salespeople and they were so warm and welcoming. You won't be able to walk out with just one thing!

Signed up to make a fairy house while on vacation and walked away with a great way to spend a few hours out of the sun, as well as a beautiful piece to add to my collection of travel memories. The instructor was extremely helpful and informative when asked for suggestions/assistance. The shop where the class is held (off the beaten path in Old Avon Village) is fantastic and filled with beautiful works of art, pottery, etc. The owner (Antoinette) was visibly present throughout the class, but, was not the instructor for this particular class. Many locals and visitors came through the store to browse/purchase gifts/items and stopped to see the progress on the fairy houses we were making in the side room off of the main showroom area.
The class participants (I believe there were six of us in this particular class) were given a few options for the base of the house and the roof. Even though many of us picked the same options, each house turned out dramatically different. Clay, carving tools and additional materials (i.e. fabric, shells, etc. to create tactile impressions in the clay) were all readily available for our use. The only "limiting" thing was the individual designer's own creativity! Color options (yellow, blue, green, brown, black) were plentiful, as well as glaze/overcoat colors. It was helpful to have physical/small swatches of each of the colors (as well as the glaze colors) to see what/how our final project color(s) would look like.
Having done this class while on vacation, one would have to think about how to transport the final product home, right? Wrong! The owner of Kinnakeet Clay, Antoinette, factored this in and offered shipping (at a minimal cost) of the finished project right to my own front door. Well worth the additional (minimal) cost IMHO! Overall price for the class was advertised truthfully prior to registering for the class and is very comparable to similar classes (i.e. canvas/wooden board painting, etc.) I have attended in recent years at various non-local locations.
After the projected wait time of approximately three-four weeks after the class (which allows the clay to properly dry before getting fired in the kiln), my finished fairy house was shipped and received. Antoinette and/or her staff wrapped my entire fairy house in protective bubble wrap and placed it into a shipping box with packing peanuts for additional support/protection. Antoinette/staff member was thoughtful enough to include a handwritten note attached to my house to indicate there was a very sharp edge of where part of my project had a small floor piece that had broken apart from the main house (but, was still attached). Very much appreciated for the heads-up on how sharp that particular section was!
I cannot wait to go back to Kinnakeet Clay to make another fairy house when I return to the island...would highly recommend any classes Antoinette and her staff offer. You will not be disappointed!

Hi Cristina,
Thank you for your wonderful, thoughtful and thorough review. If I were a potential student, I would know exactly what to expect after reading your review. I appreciate you taking the time to share!
I'm thrilled that you are happy with your fairy house. The mailbox is my very favorite part. Icing on the cake! I was very concerned that you wouldn't know how sharp the cracked spot would be and certainly didn't want you to cut yourself in the excitement of opening. Safety Sam over here. Glad you appreciated that. ;)
Thank you again for your lovely review. We'll look forward to seeing you in the studio next year.

A few of the girls from work decided to take the fairy house class and we loved it! The instructor was very friendly and helpful. We all have different artistic abilities (mine being nonexistent) but all of the houses turned out great. I would defiantly recommend this class to everyone. Since I am a local, I have already signed up for more classes. It is addictive!!!

A must stop to shop for amazing pottery, art, flowers, and jewelery. They even have pottery classes so you can make your own souvenir. The owner, Antoinette is a first class potter.

Hi, last year we came and crafted bowls with you in October, group of 6, granddaughter to Great Grandmother. This year just be husband and myself coming in November. Do you still do any classes then.
Written July 27, 2016
Hi there. Thanks for getting in touch. Yes! We still offer classes in November. We generally schedule two classes per week that time of year. Wednesday and Thursday are the days. We offer more classes during Thanksgiving week and those full quickly. We'll have the November schedule up by the beginning of October. Possibly sooner.
Please feel free to get in touch if you have other questions. Hope to see you in the studio! ~Antoinette
